WINDOWS 10 Fallout Script Extender FIXED
If you are wanting to mod Fallout 3 from Nexusmods.com and youve applied FOSE(falloutscriptextender) as youtube videos and others have shown worry no more..

chances are these users are not on Windows 10 because ive done what they suggest.

When applying FOSE to your Fallout3 Directory located in your

This PC > Local Disk (?:)<--which ever disk you downloaded the game to for me this is (D:) > Steam Library > steamapps > common > Fallout 3 goty

Inside you should see your "Data" Folder and down the lister "FalloutLauncher"
_________________________________________________________

When youve downloaded FOSE current stable downloaded version for me rn its beta 2 version..

Open the file with WinRar/Winzip/ or 7z so that you can see all the files.

COPY every file EXCEPT:

src(folder)
fose_command_doc.html
fose_whatsnew.txt
fose_readme.txt

PASTE the 10, .dll files and the fose_loader.exe into your Fallout 3 Directory where your Data folder and FalloutLaucher are located.

Right click fose_loader.exe and go to properties. Once open at the top is a compatibility tab, click this. Look where "Compatibility Mode" with the check box, make sure to set your Windows to Service Pack 3 to run on windows 10.

Next in "Settings" check the box "Run this program as an administrator"

"Apply" then click "OK"

You will now double click fose_loader.exe to Lauch Fallout 3 from now on even with STEAM version.

It took me several uninstalls and attempts to figure this out for windows 10.

Every time I try to launch it says the "file or directory is corrupted and unreadable" and every time I try to change the compatibility to Win 10 it won't go beyond Win 8.

I know I am late to this subject a lot is happening in the world, however you have to make sure you are using fose_loader.exe to start the game. Do not use the steam version to launch the game. You will send fose_loader.exe to the desktop and click it when wanting to play the game. You cant play the game with fose using the regular fallout steam client.

I know this is late but I just want to say thanks, this is the only guide that appears to have been successful for my game. After following way too many guides in the past, I was only left with crashes after the first 2 minutes of gameplay with FOSE installed.

Im on Windows 10, running as smooth as possible. Compatibility makes things worse, as far as I can tell.

I've done 4gb patch, Unofficial Update, FOSE (didnt apply 4GB Patch to it, it crashed more), also used NVAC as It seems to load correctly and helps. Also did some fallout.ini tweaks, I think it helped further.

This game is much more glitchier than New Vegas, but I can get an hour or two play time, with mods, without any crashes.

Mind you I tested many installs and steps, this is what works best for me.

However, this game has a mind of its own in terms of crashing. I also get 5 minutes crash sometimes. To me its like, when it decides to load smoothly, it will, but many tweaks help guide it.

Important is 4GB Patch, FOSE+NVAC, Unofficial Patch, .ini tweaks:

bUseThreadedAI=1
iNumHWThreads=2

That is important as it allows the game to use the CPU Thread amount you have. (ThreadedAI Enables MultipleThreads while HWThreads is your thread amount. I've read keep it at 1 if you are crashing.)

I am also using FOMM, and FOSE runs appropriately running scripts while allowing Steam Overlay still.

Finally, there's ALOT of .ini tweaks, which I think helped a lot. I'm on a clunker laptop, this game is POORLY optimized, so I turned a lot of LOD down and grass/shadows off. Cheers, hope this helps.
