Miasmata Update#1(beta 3) Accessible now

The 3rd beta update is now available to download. You can activate the update by right-clicking on Miasmata in Steam and selecting 'Properties'. A box will appear that has a 'Betas' tab. Click on it. There will be a drop-down menu where you can select a beta patch. The patch has a password. It is: 'beta3'. When you've made your selection and clicked 'Close', the patch will begin to download. It is large, so it should take a little while.

This beta update makes the following additions, improvements and changes...

- FOV Slider, accessible in the graphics settings menu.
- Changes to the creature's behavior and encounter logic
- All achievements should hopefully be working now
- Misc. bug fixes

The FOV slider is a great addition, though a bit wonky when used from within the game (not from the start menu).
The achievments are working for me.

Incidentally, from an implementation-detail point of view, can you tell us how you tweaked the creature's behavior? Or would that be giving too much away?

I tried the new update, but it seems only the achievement "It may be time for an intervention" has been fixed. The rest of the broken achievements are still broken.

Ok. I will try this new beta, but so far, I have put three hours into this game, just trying to get it payable enough to walk past the starting beach. I've attempted all Betas and I've tried all settings. Specifically, turning the resolution all the way down to 800x600 and all settings at low, with 0% Model detail. I have even attempted to use the NVidia desktop manager to lower graphics even further. I am above the minimum specs for this game, but I cannot seem to get it to run. I REALLY WANT TO PLAY THIS GAME, IT LOOKS EFFING AMAZING. I had voted for it on the Greenlight and was super excited to see it on the market. Any advice would be helpful, either in a PM or on this forum.

OS: Windows XP SP3
Processor: Intel Core Duo 2.53Ghz
RAM: 4GB
Video Card: NVidia GeForce 9400
Disc Space: Not an issue

P.S. I know my video card sucks. There is no need to inform me of this.

I'm very sorry for the disappointing performance. In having any constructive discussion about the game's performance on your machine, it is necessary to point out that your 9400 has about half the gpu cores as an 8600, which we list as the minimum requirement for a video card. The Nvidia 8000 and 9000 series cards were nearly identical, so your 9400 is about on par with an 8400, and it is not at the level of an 8600. So, your system does not meet the minimum listed requirements. I realize that you have to be an expert to decipher all of the model numbers and determine where your hardware stands relative to others, so I sympathize. It's why people both love and hate PC gaming :)

I know you didn't want your video card pointed out, but it is the reason for Miasmata's slow performance on your machine. Unfortunately, the game just demands too much for your video card to handle, even on the lowest settings.

Glad to see that you're actively working on the game and fixing dem bugs! It may have been already suggested, but I think (if it's not asking an insane amount of effort) it would be cool if urns that you've lit would be indicated as such on your map. Oh, and a legend for the map would be useful, too.

About how large are we talking? (I haven't tried a beta yet) My ISP caps my data so I have to be watchful when I'm downloading gigs of things.

I have a laptop with the same specs but 9600m GT ddr2 with the first beta it was a bit playable making around 15-20 fps, now i'm downloading beta 3. I don't know why this game is so power hungry I hope it will be optimized more. the 9600m gt was crap back in 2008 I can't imagine how bad 9400 is. I'm sorry.

I was on beta1 and switched to beta3, without downloading beta 2, and it worked fine. But it only downloaded 230MB, something very small. I guess that when he said big download, it is from "out of beta" version?

The game is so smooth, it's a real joy to play.
