Stuck in conversation mode with tavern keeper

At the start of the game, on the first island, I walked into the tavern and started dialog with the tavern keeper, but clicking on any dialog option doesn't work, and I can't exit dialog mode. Is this a common bug? Anything I can do to avoid it, or to get out of it when it happens?

There was just a massive update so it's possible this is a new bug, I've never experienced something like that, what dialogue options are even available?

I can ask questions, or I can ask to rent a room. Clicking on either doesn't work.
I reloaded and tried again, got stuck again same way.
Oh well, I guess I'll need to wait a bit more till they fix it.

Yeah that's very strange, perhaps if you just avoid talking to him until you have to for story and see if it works then.

Are you playing on the new beta? Several of us just encountered the same issue with the tavern keeper and reported it in the beta bugfinding thread, with any luck the developer will resolve this issue soon.

Yeah, I'm trying out the new patch. It's probably a mistake I am guessing. Maybe I'll just wait some more. Or I also hear that the game has some issues that several mods fix, and are those going to work with the newest update? I'm guessing probably not? So need to wait until both the game is updated and the mods are updated to work with it?

Previously with some of the mods, like hookmod, you could merely open up the file and manually change the version number of the game and it would continue working. For example changing a 1.5.0 to 1.5.1 or something similar. Not sure if that same fix works if you update the number to the beta's version number. I'll try it out later and see. When you go to edit files like that make sure you always make a backup incase something screws up

After this hang up dialog in tavern all saves will be corrupted, even if you load game from previous save.

I found solution. First, verify files. Second, in game do as diary say, do not go to tavern to speak with keeper before you got a ship. First ship then tavern keeper.

I just tried to change the number in the hookmod file to 1.7.3.ENG and it doesn't appear to work. I was worried about this because it seems like the devs may have made enough changes that it will require the hookmod devs to put out their own fix.

Per the devs latest patch, this issue with the tavern keeper should be fixed.

There has been some serious changes with the update so hookmod may not be compatible

after 1.7.3 - problem - I try to speak to captains on their ships and I am stuck in dialog, cannot proceed with - any help?

I literally just encountered this myself, wanted to trade with a captain on his ship but the dialog isn't working, no matter which one i click

Ah that's a known bug right now, for some reason talking to other ship captains is just broken.
