Me too, mate. Are you playing on a laptop?

I bought the GOTY package and at first it only ran in a 1024x768 window on my 1920x1080 desktop - I couldn't even move the window into the centre of the screen. After installing Morrowind Overhaul 3.0 I could play in full-screen mode but only at 3fps. I have spent hours and hours tweaking the settings, I have tried the Morrowind FPS Optimiser, but never got more than 3fps and now Morrowind is totally broken and won't even launch. Steam doesn't offer any way to re-download the package to start from scratch.

I am playing on a laptop which is an i5 with 4Gb of RAM and both integrated Intel HD and nVidia GT-420M graphics adaptors. I suspect that Morrowind is only using the Intel HD adaptor. Does anyone know if that's right, and if so then how do you force Morrowind to use the nVidia adaptor?

I do believe that for Bethesda/Steam to re-release this game without at least updating it to be able to play on modern PCs out of the box is FRAUDULENT. Nowhere did it say "this is a ten-year-old game with ten-year-old compatibility issues." This comes on the heels of Bethesda's chief mouthpiece saying that the Oblivion horse-armour rip-off taught them about value - he obviously means that it taught them they could shovel out any old crap and we mugs would buy it with no recourse. The JP Morgan ploy, in other words.

So I've got a fresh copy downloading at last. But does anyone know if you need to force Morrowind onto the nVidia graphics card and not the integrated one?

The answer to my problem was to start with a fresh installation of Morrowind GOTY and just use the Morrowind FPS Optimiser to set the resolution to 1920x1080. The game runs fine like that and I can ramp up all the graphics settings to max with no issues. That's all I wanted, no need for graphics overhauls - I just wanted to revisit the Morrowind that I played ten years ago. It's actually better than that because I couldn't run with max graphics back then.

The actual solution: I just needed to go into the Geforce control panel and manually set Morrowind to use the nVidia chipset instead of the default integrated one. Can't believe I didn't think of that earlier.

The difference it has made to the quality of the graphics is unbelievable and it whips along smoothly without even using the FPS Optimiser. I've finally got my Morrowind back after all these years.

@sanderville how would you go about checking if your game is using a nvidia gpu

I am using the MSGO Overhaul 3 and already forced Morrowind, the Morrowind Launcher and the MGSO Installer to run with my NVIDIA GPU via NVIDIA Control Panel, but neither the MGSO Setup or the Morrowind Launcher recognize my NVIDIA GPU so I only have 13 FPS. The GPU drivers are up to date.
