Does this game works with a better version of Windows, too?
I ´m using Windows 10 and I´d love to play the game!

?
OpenMW has a built in bitcoin miner that uses their PCs for the financial gain of the devs, but the fanboys are clueless and willingly ignore it.

I have never heard of this. Can you provide some proof of your claims.

There have been a few posts on the official Open MW forums, but they have been shut down by the devs in an effort to silence the truth. You can still find devs like Scott Howard also contributing to bitcoin mining related projects on their GitHub, which is, while not solid proof, is a good hint about what we are dealing with here. But there is a good way to see the truth, that is to have OpenMW installed and check your background process for disguised bitcoin mining ones. 80% chance you'll find one, I had this happen to myself. OpenMW is a product of greed, not love, and I do not endorse it.

This is quite sad indeed. Thank you for providing such info.

No problem, it's a shame that such an amazing project got tainted by ♥♥♥♥♥♥ devs.

Believing random people on the Internet isn't a great idea.

You know the source code is available right here: https://github.com/OpenMW/openmw, right?

You can look through that if you really want to find some evidence one way or the other. I know it's not the same as manually inspecting every line of code by hand, but a quick search for obvious search terms like bitcoin, hash, net, network etc. yields nothing nefarious.

Full disclosure, though, I am an OpenMW dev, so if we were all evil, I could be lying. I'm not sure how the specific stuff I said here could be faked, but I'm sure someone might find this to be enough reason to ignore me.

Now, all this said, it is possible that if you've been getting OpenMW through any unofficial channels, they may have been modified by a third party. The source code being open means that anyone wanting to do evil things can make fake builds and fake websites that mostly behave like the original, but do something nefarious, too. If you're really worried about this, you can build OpenMW yourself, and that way you know it's doing exactly what the source code says it is. You might want to tun on link-time optimisation, though, as that's off by default.

If you've got specific complaints about Scott Howard, you can see all the contributions he's made to OpenMW here: https://github.com/OpenMW/openmw/commits?author=maqifrnswa

None of these add a bitcoin miner.

Scott Howard is a respected Debian and Ubuntu Linux developer and a Professor at University of Notre Dame. Defamation and character assassination are serious offenses and can be prosecuted. You better be able to provide proof instead of hearsay otherwise you risk a libel lawsuit.

The burden of proof rests on you. OpenMW is an opensource project and abides by the GPLv3 a legally binding license. You have every right to review the code.

The other possibility is that you are correct and that someone downstream created their own windows package that includes a bitcoin miner and posted it online. Do not trust anything that doesn't come from OpenMW.org or their Github release page:
https://github.com/OpenMW/openmw/releases

Feel free to validate these builds.

For those interested, OpenMW is tracking this:

Time to unsub from the thread.

There is no bitcoin miner in OpenMW and it's open source, so feel free to check the source code yourself. Don't believe some random troll spreading verbal diarrhea.

It would be suspicious if the game runs at 2-3 fps and has a constant 100% CPU usage.

(hint: It doesn't)

To be honest, i have never believed him in the first place. It is quite obvious that he is trolling. I was just curious in how far he would go with it.

As for OpenMW i couldn't care less about it.
