lesser units
so the last few days i have been reading the eugen forum and i find a lot of articles about for example leopard tanks. and it made me really wonder why units that are made by the major countries and in their decks(like the leopard in a german deck) are better then when you drive around with your Canadian leopard??? its the same tank but somehow there is armor missing and they lost the targeting system??? or east german T72 is worse then a russian one????
iz bizar ain it as a country i wouldn't buy the second choice tank and give them the finger.....

The USSR especially did not sell or give away their full models. For example, in the Gulf War, Saddam had, at absolute best, T-72Ms. If you look in the game (I believe the Czechs have them), they're quite a bit worse than any real T-72. T-72Ms had lower quality armor, lower build quality in general, and none of the advanced optics the Soviet models had. They also lacked the ability to fire ATGMs from the barrel.

I don't know if or how often the same sort of thing happened on the NATO side.

but thats like buying second choice lighters from china or not, if you look at the leopard i think its the same. i don't think the german same class leopard is as bad as the norwegian or canadian leo's

and selling them to a saddam like character i can understand but when you fight in the same war and are in the same pact its a bit silly or not???

Canadian Leopards were export purchases from Germany. Since Canada was not under any major land threat during the Cold War being in North America and all, they did not have to have the best of the best tanks when an okay tank could do.

No the game is made to be semi-realilistic. If a nation did not have a specific unit, they don't have it in the game. If they had a lesser unit, they have a lesser unit in the game. With tanks for example, you could buy older tanks, or tanks that lacked current gen optics, stabalizers, turret rotation equipment etc at a lower price, and many nations did. Also many nations dont sell the best of what they have.

the export leopards were either all a1 or a3 models. Norwegian one is probably the best one out of them. None of them were upgraded untill 89. Norway and denmark will most likely get the LEO 1A5NO/DK in Red Dragon and canada the C1 MEXAS.

The Canadian Leopard C1 is better than the German Leopard 1A4 - better armor, better AP, more ammo, better stabilizer, but worse optics (which is no big deal if you have recon). So what's the problem? The Canadian one is overpowered?

Keep in mind that this is still a game, not a simulation. Things are balanced for gameplay purposes.
