Once a proud warrior
where in the past the Apache was the horror of every tanker today its destruction is just a mouse click away. and there for a once proud warrior who would hit you from the tree tops or dash out of the sand dunes is now a flying shooting gallery target that gets you that big teddy bear. not only is the helo more expensive then most kamikazi pilot trying to down it, but the whole theory of the concept of this great killing machine is out the window. a group of 2helo's (a scout recon helo and an Apache) should be able to slip in and kill a couple of armor before being gunned down by a swarm of mig's. now they have no chance

1+ had a battle wher it got stunned from a recon.. and died like really the moment it when on 1vs1 i got stunned wth the first hit i think xD

I use my pact gunships just fine and rarely lose them. Of course I use them when they are needed (such as a sudden and heavy armoured attack to defend against, or to pick off heavy armoured units when I am pushing an attack) and otherwise keep them safely behind my AA defenses.

The gunships are generally great but in my opinion (and if you disagree that is just fine) their use is really situational...I dont believe in leading an attack with them but rather using them in support when the reward is worth the risk.

I killed an apache last night with a 55 point mig 21 which I didnt lose...the reason I was able to was because the apache was operating in front of their defenses, independently with no air defenses; at the time it was trying to run from the strela10m vehicle that I had charging at it.

At the same time I pushed in three gunships of my own which were able to operate effectively because I had eliminated most of their AA and over the course of the game had managed to shoot down most of their airpower.
Gunships are support/defend units. They are awesome at defending because they can quickly arrive where they need to be, unleash hell, then fly back to the FOB to reload. They make ♥♥♥♥♥♥ attack units because any AA will kill them fast and most outrange them. Meaning every forest and building is a potential danger.

However, if you are under attack by t80U's and your line is about to crumble, your tanks can't get there in time or are pinned by ATGM's, that's the Apache's time to shine: Fly him in, ♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥ up and run away.

Now, if you want a self-contained killing unit, the Kiowa warrior has hellfires and is an exceptional recon. Excellent for sniping stuff.

yeah if you are using gunships by themselves you are doing it wrong. And no they haven't been nerfed, airplane effectiveness against helos has in fact been continually nerfed since first closed beta. F-15s could basically hit them at max AMRAAM range.

true true and most true, its just that in EE they were the kings of the field and now you have to stay behind your own aaa where as IRL or EE you could attack with them and take out some serious ♥♥♥♥. first gulf war they trampled the Iraqi air defense before they fired one missile. i know its a game but...............izz kinda sad i am also fearing that the navy in the RD game will create large "no flyzone's". as a former airforce vet i love the jets i just think they are to instant, their reaction time is to fast.
they need the fix the apache missile stacking though...quite anoying

its a hit and run unit. preferably it should be used for taking out high value targets or have it fire of a missile and then run away immediatly after it has fired. Its F&F 2800m range missile is indeed something to fear seeing as most AA can't reach it before it reaches them.
Well hopfully in RD they will be the same, but with exceptional optics
