Steamos Desktop
Have a window manager that can do sync to vblank? The current x11 desktops can't really do this without some kind of opengl compositing going on.

In an ideal world you're never supposed to see the desktop in SteamOS, so what is the point?

Surely it does, neither wayland nor mir has amd or nvidia support, so that's the one and only choice.

So it would have an x11 desktop that has issues with syncing itself with the tv or monitor right?

It does have a gnome 3 desktop, yes. However, SteamOS is a console Os. You're never supposed to leave steam big picture mode. If you need a computer, use a computer instead, with an OS designed for everyday work of course.

Yeah it is a console, displaying graphics though x11. It doesn't matter if it is a desktop or not it is still using x11.
X11 has syncing issues. Therefore a good feature to have would be, properly synced vsync. Currently the only way to do that is to have a window manager that has some kind of opengl compositor or some strange driver hacks.
