Issue Report: ATI Mob. Radeon HD 4200 Series

My laptop has an ATI RS880M [Mobility Radeon HD 4200 Series] wich isn't much, but on windows I can run TF2 with constant 60fps (some drops with lots of people, but nothing too bad)

Sadly on Ubuntu (with the restricted drivers installed as the Getting Started guide said) I can't run TF2 due to some incompatibilities with OpenGL.

Since the new experimental drivers don't recognize the oldest cards, and the drivers for them aren't good enough, can I have some hope that this will be settled on a near future?

This issue was brought up in:

I don't know of any possible plans, but the best I can think to do is to send feedback to AMD asking for them to give back support, and hope that this combined with the feedback of everyone else in a similar position will encourage them to do so. I commented in that thread with some links to AMD feedback you can use.

Problem solved for Ubuntu 12.04 "AMD Radeon HD 4670 Mobility graphics" just install the latest open source driver by doing the following in Terminal:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:oibaf/graphics-drivers

sudo apt-get update

Then check for updates and install them, restart your system and you should be good to go. Hope this helps the rest of you!

...Will have to check if this works myself.

Well, fgl_glxgears is a lot faster, jumping from 60 to 300 frames per second

But i still get the same OpenGL error when starting TF2, wich is a shame, i'm going to run a test on SS3 to see if it runs faster then 10fps

Well, SS runs a lot better, now at a steady 10fps (yesterday it droped a lot to below 5fps) so I think this driver might me good even for better cards.

I'm sad for TF2.. Is there a way to bypass the OpenGL error and run it anyway?
