Issue Report: Achievement popups temp. break fullscreen
Loaded Dynamite Jack, opened the overlay and was typing and everything paused for a moment. The overlay then closed and I could not re‐open it, yet the game persisted.

I played for a bit, got two achievements after the first level and it caused the game to exit fullscreen and enter maximised bordered window mode, and once the achievements vanished off the screen it returned to fullscreen again. very weird.

This is a focus loss issue with opening a new window, it affects some computers but not others but we haven't found the common factor. Are you using Unity or another desktop?
Yeah, I’m using Gnome Classic, selected from the login screen. Is the overlay crash unrelated then? Hadn’t found an achievement to reproduce it with without having touched overlay.

The focus loss is on our bug list. The overlay crash is unrelated, but I am interested in any details you can offer on that, were you browsing a web page in the overlay?
I might have been, but I seem to recall once I was just chatting in the group chat. Will try to reproduce and if I can, report another :)

I'm still having this issue in all games I've tried so far. I'm using Ubuntu 12.10 x64 with Unity.

The Steam Overlay was causing similar issues (on Steam chat popups), so I disabled it globally in Steam's preferences, but achievement popups still either minimize the game (as in TF2) or pop the game into windowed mode (as in And Yet It Moves, Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP). Depending on the game, I may be able to continue just fine (TF2 will regain focus just fine) or have to quit the game to get it back into fullscreen mode (AYIM).

I'm also having this issue, on Ubuntu 12.10 using Unity. I haven't actually been using any of the overlay features, in fact I don't think I've activated it at all.

I also have this issue with XFCE on debian testing.

I'm practically on a fresh install of ubuntu 12.10 using Unity and this bug has affected me as well.

I've experienced this exiting-full-screen problem with Waveform. I've not seen it happen in other games, but that may simply be due to a lack of Steam notifications when playing other games.

If it helps: I'm running XFCE 4.8 on Xubuntu 12.04.1.

I have also run into this problem, so far I have seen it when playing FTL and TF2, both in fullscreen. I'm running Arch Linux with Gnome 3.

Using KDE on Ubuntu 12.10, this happens as well. :-(

Some kwin issue, perhaps?

I have this issue too. Linux Mint 13 64 bit, with MATE window manager. The game exit and re-enters fullscreen, but loses focus and the only thing I could do was reboot. Happened every single time I got a steam achievement; tested games: Dungeons of Dredmore and Space Pirates and Zombies.

Same here with Space Pirates and Zombies on Fedora 16 + KDE as j.salem above.

I was using Unity, but I switched to the Cinnamon Desktop Environment and I no longer have this problem.

Also happens to me in TF2, running Arch Linux with XFCE/Xmonad. As a tiling WM I can keep TF2 force-maximized, but the popup still steals focus. I'll report back if I can find a setting to prevent new windows from taking the focus, but I'd rather leave that the way it is so I can still use it normally.
