TF2, a lot of characters missing in game
My system is:
Ubuntu 12.10 64 bit
AMD HD 6870 with driver 12.11 beta (the first version not the 8)

When I play TF2 many characters aren't displayed.
See the screens:
{LINK REMOVED} (here no problem)
{LINK REMOVED} (here no problem)

Sorry for the multi monitor.
As you can see in the server list and in loading the characters are displayed with no problem. (screen n° 7)

The missing characters seems to be random, and some times it miss only some isolated characters and other times it miss an entire text (screen n° 9 and 10)

I have other graphical bug like the shortcut and the bar of "food".(see the screen n°6)
Any suggestion?

I had something not entirely unlike that when using bleeding edge (self-compiled) open-source radeon drivers, but you are not using those.

I've seen similar issues on TF2 under Wine and the native version now available thorugh the beta. I used to see this in Ubuntu 12.04, and I'm still seeing it in Ubu 12.10 with the 304 NVidia drivers.

I'm currently updating to the experimental 310 drivers to see if that fixes things. I'll post screenshots of the issues I'm seeing as well, since if they're still present in 310, that would make this a cross-driver issue.

Under wine, turning off multi core rendering fixes that exact bug but at the cost of lower fps...I'm not running under linux yet (waiting for invite) but the wine issue looks absolutely identical to those screenshots!

Yeah multicore rendering causes that for some people, including me (GTX460, NVIDIA 310.19). Turn it off and it all goes away, though you have a bit lower FPS.

Ok, so with the 310.14 NV drivers and latest Steam update, the problem is gone on my system. I guess this is part of the work that Valve's done with NVidia recently, and unfortunately, whatever the fix is doesn't exist in the AMD drivers.

Well, it may exist, the beta8 driver sounds like it has fixes, but unfortunately crashes steam.

As people have said, disable Multicore Rendering (and if there is Windows Aero Support disable that too- i doubt there is but that was also a reason for the problem)

Disabling multicore rendering doesn't fix the issue for me.

The issue disappeared. Might be related to xorg-edgers updates, not sure.

The issue came back.

I had this issue when I'm wasn't in beta. After a few days it disappeared (probably an update).
When I get invitation to beta, I removed entire Steam from my system and did a clean install. I downloaded TF2 again (three days ago) and issue is back.
Multicore rendering was enabled all the time.

Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64bit, AMD A6-3400M CPU, AMD Radeon HD6470M, AMD 12.10 driver, Cinnamon desktop environment

I've seen this problem in both native and in wine but it's far much worst in wine

I've not tried this in native as it's no where near as bad but in wine... the solution was to turn multi-thread off and on again to see the char's again

mat_queue_mode 0

and then

mat_queue_mode -1

I binded mine to a key on wine so every so often I see the missing chars... just a couple of touches and gone

I thought this issue was already reported, people were talking about this sometime ago so I didn't bother
