Install Guide For Arch Linux users
Install steam from the AUR, use packer or yaourt.

If you use Bumblebee, remember to use optirun as in:
optirun /usr/bin/steam

Good luck!

Jockey is orphaned in the AUR. If you want you could adopt it and fix the dependencies.

Any advice for multilib folks? I've got this funny "Installing breakpad exception handler for appid(steam)/version(1352224866_client)" message when I try to run.

Have you tried lib32-google-breakpad-svn (AUR)?

Making an attempt at that right now. I'm rebuilding jockey at the same time with some fresh new dependencies from AUR.

Much gratitude to you ;)

EDIT: Seems to have worked, but I also installed a bunch of the dependencies listed in YUMRUK's pkgbuild as well. Not a very scientific process, so I can't tell for sure which worked or which did not.

Don't use the PKGBUILD in AUR, the right one is located here: https://gist.github.com/4027247

You can use the regular AUR PKGBUILD now, it works.
the AUR pkgbuild is now fixed.
So. I've installed it. Valve, your move.

Has anyone gotten any games to run? For example Amnesia? ldd shows libfltk.so.1.1, but installed one is 1.3, so therefore it won't launch (Launcher.bin64).

Edit: Oh, 1.1 is in the AUR. Sweet.
Edit2: Still doesn't work. Meh.
Edit3: Just copy the installed files to /usr/lib/ and it'll work just fine. Sweeet!

I got everything installed, but I can't download games. I don't have blessed beta access, I'm just using steam-hack.

You're still able to download games and play them without actual beta access. Just sayin..

I figured so much. I'm not exactly certain why games won't download for me then. A couple games is all I tried. I'll try again later, maybe after a few more people get things working.

I'm on Arch 64bit and installed perfectly with "sudo yaourt -S steam"

I even made a screenshot while playing World of Goo - Demo and uploaded it to my profile. I won't be doing any bug reports of course since it isn't intended that we force it to run on other distros and outside of the limited beta. But it's nice to finally be able to join the chat on Linux through my browser.
