Hardware survey page buggy?
Until now I found it a lame excuse for the declining Linux numbers to call the hardware survey buggy. But today I got these two results just be reloading the same (july) page...

It seems to have stabilized, and on the good side.
Linuxes are +0.1% up, and the unknown OSes +0.16%.
Not what some expected from Dota 2 though...

And vista grows and grows every month :D the steam hardware survey is a funny statistic but nothing you should seriously care about ;)
Dota is excellent .... but dont forget about the summer hole xD
Also ATI/AMD Radeon has to solve theyre driver and performance problems.....iam sure all those start problems slow down the member statistics now ....

Remember all those people and thumbs up, who said they were waiting on DOTA 2 and "Bye Bye Windows"?. Time to stand up and be counted. Of course, don't let the 1% fool you, it's still almost or more than a Million users. Also there are still a good number of peeps whom say they have yet to be surveyed, except when using Steam on Wine.

All in all I wouldn't worry too much, August may see some gains and almost everybody I talk to is scared to death of the NSA/Windows things. I think what most people could use is a friend or family member to help them switch over, as I'm quite positive that most aren't sure how.

Probably a good time to set up your family and friends if you have some spare time. But don't start them out on an unfamiliar GUI like Gnome 3. Use XFCE (Xubuntu) or something they will be comfortable with. And make sure they know everything they can before you leave their house. Put some bookmarks for various Linux game, news and help sites also. I did all this for my friends and family, been several months and they love it. You just have to do it right.

Well it is the 1st of a new month, so I guess that's when everyone is filling them out and the results page should be changing a lot in the next few days.

So you refreshed it within a couple minutes and it updated, so what? The results page tends to fluctuate a few times.

These numbers are supposed to reflect a whole month, aren't they?
This isn't something that is supposed to fluctuate.

When you look closer, the usage percentages where not changing,
just the raise and decline percentages. So it seems the program was unsure
with which numbers to compare. It's a bug.

It will fluctuate until all the stats have come in, you need to let it finish generating.

That doesn't explain at all why the change numbers fluctuate while the precantages stay.
(How do they stay the same while the stats didn't yet all "come in"?)
And even if it would, then it's a bug not to finish generating before displaying results.

I suppose it could be a bug.
I wouldn't be at all surprised though if there is some other logical explanation that we just can't think of.

But if it is a bug I'm sure valve thanks you for pointing it out and hopefully get it fixed soon.
