Hi,

Does anyone know if there is a fully useable linux distro with STEAM pre-configured? Or will VaLvE make a distro?

Valve will not make their own distro. You will have to download, install and configure on your own.

The only distro Valve is working on is the Steam box OS, which will come with Steam pre-configured on Steam box systems.

And what would be the benefit if such a thing would exist? You don't need to configure Steam anyway so you save 30 seconds not having to install the client from the repos. Wow totally worth it.

Linux Lite, Fubuntu and Kanotix have steam pre-installed.

Mageia, a fork of Mandriva made by ex-Mandriva developers, has Steam in its repository of software. It doesn't come "pre-installed" but it makes installation easy--you just search for it in the software installer and select it and click "apply."

Mandriva was always the most user-friendly distro and so far my experience with Mageia is identical to Mandriva. (Mandriva switched to a non-free enterprise-only distro a few years ago)

Valve is in the process of creating SteamOS.

This isn't a conventional desktop Distro, but instead a media center computer Distro. It will, however be a streamlined Linux Distro specifically for steam.

I the mean time, it is easiest to install Steam on any Ubuntu-based Distro.
