Shopping cart troubles: shopping cart randomly empties itself, items don't get added until clicking "continue shopping"

I just had 10 items in my cart and went to add another item and suddenly I only had the item I just added, all the others were gone. I tried hitting on the back button and got back to a page that showed in green at the top "CART (10)" but clicking on that brought me to the current "CART (1)" with my single item. :( I've had this happen before as well. Anyone else have this problem?

The other problem is that when you add an item to your cart, you have to click on "continue shopping", otherwise it will not actually add the item to your cart even though it shows the item in your cart before you click on "continue shopping". Users don't always want to go back to the main store front, so this bug is annoying too.

I don't know if this is an issue with just the Linux client or across all platforms.

Wow, okay, so it's not platform-specific then, was happening in a browser too. This must be a cookie or web code-related problem then of some sort.

I tried avoiding clicking "continue shopping" and it worked in the web interface, it would add the games, but a few times I saw my shopping cart vanish even though I was still in the store section, like I didn't have any items in it. When I was trying to add a fourth item to my cart it added that item and deleted the other three I had in it.

Just now I clicked on my cart of 2 items and the cart showed up as having nothing in it, and no green cart thingy at the top. I went to another section, and the green cart with 2 suddenly showed up, and clicking on my cart then suddenly showed those two items that were gone before..

Randomness!

New bug name: the cart is random and insane, as well as randomly deleting all your items. :P

What browser did you reproduce this issue in? On Windows or Linux?

I used Firefox this morning, but now I cannot reproduce the problem in the Midori browser or in the Steam client. The only difference I've noticed is this morning my computer and/or connection was slow. When your connection is fast and you quickly add games to your cart the issue doesn't seem to pop up. This morning sometimes off and on it would take 30 seconds or so for a page to load.

Maybe this issue only effects users when environmental variables are poor then? At the time I was pushing my available RAM so it was that or my connection being slow.

I've had the same problem the last two days. Wanted to buy a couple games from Puppy Games combined with Amnesia and stuff. At random times my cart would be empty again if I added another game.

Did things seem really slow to respond off and on? When you clicked add to cart and other buttons did it sometimes freeze for a while? I live in the U.S. and maybe it's due to my ISP but it always seems like it is particularly slow in the mornings and afternoon and faster in the evenings, contrary to what you'd think. It seems to not be an issue when your connection is snappy. I'd have the problem a lot when things were slow to respond.

This just happened to me as well. My cart had 50+ items in it. I'm not really up to adding all those games again. :|

Happens to me all the time both in the client and in the browser. It's very frustrating to spend the time crafting a cart only to have most of the items disappear. The top items on my Steam wish list are make the cart persistent, make the cart faster, and add an empty cart button, and add a "save for later" feature.
