Steam + KDE Window Refresh Issue

I am running Linux Mint 14 KDE (KDE version 4.9.5) with AMD Catalyst driver 13.1. I can launch and run Steam with no problems, but the actual Steam window will only update if I change focus away from Steam and then back again. For example, if I change to my Library, I won't see my actual game listing until I click on another open application and then click back on the Steam window.

Has anyone else seen a similar issue, and have you been able to fix it? My only thought is that KDE 4.9.5 does not see Catalyst as a valid OpenGL render engine, but Steam is the only application giving me problems.

have ubuntu 13.04, KDE 4.10.1 installed. no problems with steam so far.

Thanks for the reply. Perhaps I should make the upgrade to KDE 4.10. From what I have read it has better AMD OpenGL support.

I just checked, on openSUSE I have kde 4.10 , and do no have this problem.
So maybe updating will help.

Desktop effects -> advanced -> compositing type: opengl, qt graphics system: native
I think this is the fix.

Careful, choosing "native" as render can lead to disgusting font rendering in some places (namely KWin and KWin context menus)

No such problems here with Kubuntu 12.04 (integrated Intel card)

Just in case this helps anyone else, updating to KDE 4.10.1 fixed the issue. It seems that KDE 4.10 and up finally supports OpenGL rendering with the Catalyst driver which fixes any number of annoying issues.
