Here's the "simplest" and cleanest way:
The simplest and cleanest way to play the games would be to use Bootcamp, google it. It allows you to install Windows natively on you mac, and you can play your games without any performance problems, as if your had a PC with Windows on it.
In case you're wondering, it's officially developed and supported by Apple, and it's based on a dual boot system: you don't remove OSX, you can still boot your mac on OSX, and can delete windows whenever you want.
For some other solutions:
- If you have a really good/recent computer, try installing Windows in a virtual machine (VirtualBox for instance), then install Steam and the game in there.
- Try to get the original, non-Steam version of AoE II, there's a Mac version (not sure about Stronghold though, but I think so).
- You could try some Windows emulation softwares, line WINE. But last time I tried them on OSX it was a total failure (didn't spend much time on it though).
