The string table has no function for the average map maker, unless you mod the text files in the game. Us devs on the campaign team write out all the text in our scenarios in the text files and then input the corresponding numbers in the appropriate string boxes in the editor to make things more efficient and easier to track mistakes, etc.

They also have nothing to do with sounds.

I've played the game for 15 years, and working on AoF has increased my game knowledge as well =)

How did you make the people walking over the water? Or that guy working at the market town?

Yeah the string tables are references to the language files so that we don't have to make different scenarios for each language. Instead it depends on the language file the user has.

For neat tricks like that Celes you should visit http://aok.heavengames.com/. You'll find those things in the university or in the scenario FAQ.

-For the guy walking on water in the beginning of the first Sforza mission, we just placed one of the water terrains in the editor (Water, Bridge) that happens to be walkable as it is the base terrain for bridge middle pieces.

-For the guy working at the market town (In Dracula 1 I'm assuming), I gave player 8 (grey) infinite wood stockpile and placed the villager near the anvil of the blacksmith, and then had a looping trigger damage the blacksmith a small amount every 30 seconds or so. Then I had another trigger task the villager to the damaged blacksmith (which automatically has him repair it).

Figuring out the exact amount of damage to trigger in the correct span of time took a few minutes of trial and error, but it was pretty easy.

Thank you! =)

The villager attacking the blacksmith it seems difficult.. changing diplomacy I guess, but why the infinite wood stockpile? To repair forever?... how did you set infinite? or just 99999999?

99999- to repair forever.

The villager and the blacksmith are of the same player- the repair graphic of the villager is hammering something so it looks like it's hammering the anvil.

I've made a few LotR scenarios myself. The most recent one I did involved Woad Raiders and Throwing Axemen as Uruk-hai, Jaguar Warriors as Mordor Uruks, and Halberdiers/Men at Arms/other common units as the normal Orc "grunts," or "maggots" as they're often referred to in the movies :p

Then If I wait some days the villager will stop working :o
