A Towns Tutorial for New Players

I've taken the opportunity to begin a towns tutorial playlist on my channel. For those of you looking to learn the game, I have several videos completed of a series that covers basic setup, stockpile concerns, villager management, roofing and several other typical issues that new players wrestle with. I hope that it helps anyone out that needs a hand in getting started, and welcome veterans to include their input in this thread as well. Towns has received a somewhat lukewarm reception on Steam, so I hope that the discussion will remain constructive.

I have the guide created, however it remains hidden. Any idea how to publish it properly? Never used their guides before and google doesn't seem to be much help on the subject.

Not a problem. I like Towns but really feel like people should understand certain aspects of the game before heading in, as some of them (Like roof building) are really oddly enforced / designed. Things like that tend to irritate and frustrate a new player.

These really are all great videos in the series. I managed to figure much of it out in the Demo before purchasing (Hey, on Sale, might as well, right?) and I do like Dwarf Fortress but always felt it had TO much going in it... This is just right to me in what it has.

Awesome tutorials, I learned a good bit on it! Especially so how to manage your stockpile a whole lot and in the building too. Really great to see these here and I hope others learn from them too. Was hoping to see how to do roofs, but I suppose that'll be in the next episode to come.

Roofs are talked about in episode 5 I believe which I'm currently uploading. The beginning of the roof building process begins at 5:40ish in the video I think.

Thanks for the link there. Between that and your video I managed to actually roof my first house, so slowly I can have people moving out of my multi-level mountain home I have them in, heh. I also have a sustainable amount of food, and my people only occasionally run off to grab something out of stupidity.

Next project is a multi-floor home and tavern!

Those multi-floors are quite a project, I built a few last night while messing around. I've found that equipping every villager with weapons and gear should keep them alive no matter what on the normal map. For desert maps and snow maps they still get eaten by yellow snakecrabs and yetis on occasion though. So you may try that strategy if your people are just being super stupes.

I also wanted to add that the guide is now posted in the guides section for the game. I would be very appreciative if people could go and rate it to help it gain more exposure. Thanks :D
