There is an "Erase Event" option, but that will only erase it while you are in the same area. It will return if you leave the map and come back.
Post up some screenshots of your event's pages and maybe someone on the forums here can offer some suggestions that might help you to fix it.
Make sure the 'Control Self Switch: A (or whatever) = On' is at the bottom of the event, where you want it to cut off.
Example Event:
Page 1 of event
Player says: "Hello."
NPC says: "Nope."
Control Self Switch: A = On
Page 2 of the event is left blank, apart from the 'Self Switch' box on the left hand side needs to be ticked, and 'A' needs to be selected in the drop-down menu (Unless you want the NPC to say something else, then make sure to select his graphic. If a graphic isn't selected, when Self Switch A activates, said NPC will disappear).
Make sure the 'Self Switch' box on Page 1 ISN'T ticked, otherwise the self switch activates as soon as the event does, thus making whatever you put on Page 2 happen straight away.
I hope that all made sense and wasn't... over explained.

After that, click the 'New Event Page' at the top of the window, that'll obviously make a second event page. On this new page you'll want to set 'Self Switch A' to on - similar to what you had on the screenshot you sent me. Other than that, keep the second page blank. This will cause the event to play out, then when you get Self Switch A to turn on, it'll switch to your new blank event page, effectively removing the event :)
