[mega thread] Sexism in Chinese language translation. And the 33,660,000 disappeared women in China. 关于中文汉化涉嫌性别歧视的问题。
In the main manu page backgound, there is that shuttle been painted with a sentencen "without reaching Mun you are not a good male" in Chinese. What? Good Male? How is this supposed to mean? Can you devs change it plz? I assume there are bunch of female players who would like to enjoy this game as well. Thank you very much.

if OP really care about female's rights, and wanna do something.
To make an investigation one, should go into matters deeply, not just scratch the surface.

You said , women don't like "好汉". I straightly asked my sister , what she feels like about this word.
She said, actually she feels noting. “好汉” in her mind is a word likes "hero", and women also can be a hero.

and it seemed that OP is only thinking about everything is her mind, and never deep into the real society.
I had been Chinese countryside for months, like my cousin who was borned in poor countryside.
when she was borned , her parents sand she to another family, but after she grew up , she back to her real family, and finish college courses.
the government has launched a campaign of television commercials and leaflet long long ago, except reallly remote mountain areas, as I saw , in countryside , killing baby is brutal brutal and cold-blooded thing , unacceptable , intolerable.

And to change the topic completely. You said on Zhihu.com that the natural sex ratio of new-borns would be 1:1. This is completely not true. The natural sex ratio at birth is usually between 1.02 and 1.08 as per what Wikipedia says. Check out at Human sex ratio[en.wikipedia.org].
So you see that result now. Now you know what the fact is. Most males in China don't know what female think and how we feel about everything. It's because this is a male-oriented culture traditionally. We need human right for women. We need to speak for us.
And as you changed the topic to that birth sex ratio problem, yes 1:1 is not an exact ratio to be said, it's different in different region and somehow controlled by environment such as temperature, while actually we don't ever know what IS the exact ratio. The only fact we know is that female babies/fetuses are been massively killed. We see it everywhere in our society especially in those backward places. It's a problem everyone should look see and pay attention to. Our society don't care about children/ teenagers/ females, it's really sad. Just think that not long before, "sleeping with young girls/female kids" was still differed from "raape" for our great great politicians escaping from legal sanction. What can we say?

From when the Criminal Law of PRC first came into effect, "sleeping with young girls" have been part of♥♥♥♥♥♥and have been instructed specifically to be punished even more seriously.♥♥♥♥♥♥is punishable by imprisonment of 3~10 years if it is not considered a serious case. But "sleep with young girls" have always been part of the serious conditions and is punishable by 10+ years of imprison, life sentence or death. The 1997 version of the Criminal Law of P R China add pays for sex with under-fourteen girls as a crime to punish those who claims their activity is just prostitution but not♥♥♥♥♥♥, as sex with under-fourteens was not automatically regarded as a crime back then, not to protect/promote people who♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥young girls.

As you mentioned this I would like to note that the Criminal Law of P R China still does not regard men being forced to have sexual intercourse as♥♥♥♥♥♥ whether this victim is under-fourteen or not. Your example rather shows the overall immatureness of the Chinese criminal law system than that the Chinese legislature does not protect the rights of women.

This is exactly why I said "By discriminating two groups of people you only strengthen discrimination." Why would there be female or male politicians to speak for female or male people respectively? There should only be people representing people, why all the fuss about gender, race, nationality and such? Eliminating race and sex as a discriminating factor is the only way to eliminate racism and sexism.
No, why Obama is important as being a black politician and it's great? It's the same reason, because equality. Now not many male politician speak for women, they speak for themselves, your point lacks a realistic basis

Obama is important because he is the first African American to become POTUS, not because he is black. That is what I am trying to say here. People have been so got used to discriminating people that they do not realise they are discriminating people. It is the discrimination against black people (or African American people) that makes him important, which makes him an example of the opposite of discrimination.

Eventually if you want to eliminate discrimination, you must stop see people differently. There is only people, any and all adjectives are trivial.

You are not supporting your point by your instance. I didn't see people differently, and you framed that against me. However this word "好汉"does, based on how people REALLY use it, it neglected women's self-cognition. Which I've proved before.

And about your " rather shows the overall immatureness of the Chinese criminal law system than that the Chinese legislature does not protect the rights of women." Hehe. I'm sorry? What's your point? How are your additional conditions making my topic being another? Ofc Chinese legislature is immature, did I say anything against it? Switching of concept is not a welcomed way in discussion process. My point is that women are suffering more! Male babies are not killed. Males are not died from domestic violence. Male adults are not kidnapped and sold!! How can you ignore this fact and switch the emphasized key point here???

Why fk so many selfish people everywhere. I hate Chinese males' guts. Geez I hate them!

1. Obama's importance came from racism rather than from "equality". So if you don't discriminate people then Obama is just another president who is about as important as any other POTUS.

2. I have argued that the Criminal law of the P R China does protect women and especially women under 14, and why your example is a misinterpretation about the Chinese criminal law. Therefore the evidence that you used for arguing that the Chinese legal system didn't protect young girls simply does not support your argument. If you want to argue that the Chinese legal system does not protect young girls well you should at least seek evidence in Chinese legal practices rather than quote some crime which does not even exist in the law.

1. Male babies die naturally at a higher rate than female babies.

2. There are thousands of divorces a year in China alone which the cause being a man abused by his wife. As of dying for that I do not currently possess any data so I dare not say.

3. Male adults do get "kidnapped and sold". Into the mines for example. And among the children being "kidnapped and sold", there are more young boys than young girls[m.opinion.caixin.com]. You could use this as a proof to support that women get lower social status than men in traditional Chinese society and I would agree with you on that.

Furthermore even if male adults didn't get "kidnapped and sold" it's more likely simply because it is generally costlier and less profitable to kidnap a healthy adult Homo sapiens than to kidnap a female one. Wouldn't make much of an argument on sexism of China.

乱发牢骚不是挽回尊严的方式哦
I'm surprised this is still going, especially after the spam war.

Hell, you've all beaten and bruised the OP enough for her to show her true colors towards the 'issue', which from what I've seen seems to be the very thing she says she's fighting against. Towards males, of course, which means it must not be sexism! /s.

I will conclude my arguments that is directly related to OP's original post here.

1. OP's argument is based on something that is hardly standing. "不到Mun非好汉" originates from Mao Zedong's "不到长城非好汉" (LIT. He who hasn't been to the Great Wall is not a true man) and it is common practice to describe anybody who has been to the Great Wall as a "好汉", male, female and LGBT alike. If it is as what OP argued that most (if not all as what OP claimed) women do not like being called a "好汉" OP must show some proof.

2. OP speaks Chinese and therefore understands this fact. Despite knowing this fact OP still chooses to argue that this sentence is sexism against women. While I understand and support OP's intention of promoting rights for women, I must say that I totally disagrees what OP used to support their arguments. Wrong evidences never lead to correct results.

3. If OP really want to promote women's right, OP must know who's their enemy in the first place. As what Mao Zedong has argued, "one must unite all powers that can be united". OP is making enemies rather than friends and this WILL NEVER GET OP's WISH DONE.

OP I urge you to find a right way to promote women's social status rather than make every man (literally!) and even some women stand up and against you. Here I quote from one of my close friend: the word "好汉" only discriminates you so long as you see yourself as the discriminated.
