EDIT: Thank you for allowing us to play old patches via steam
I learned that you can go back to earlier patches in the "beta" tab. I changed this to stop this thread from geting posts. Thank you for your help

You can tell steam not to update your games.
Just open the properties and tab over to 'betas' and tell steam which version of KSP you want to play.

KSP will update automatically if you leave your beta setting on 'none'.
thankyou. did not know you could force it to load an older version. "only update when i launch the game" would not be good enough

rip mods. ♥♥♥♥ this game. This game fully modded 5 years ago was better than it is today. Most amazing mods are long gone bc of these ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ updates. Next thing you know these idiots will add achievements.

Better still, copy the steam KSP folder to somewhere else and then run / mod the copy. That way steam won't blow it apart when an update happens.

This is what I do every time KSP updates. In fact, I make two copies, one that I leave bone stock vanilla and never use, the other that I mod.

it's also a good idea to have a folder someplace where you keep archival copies of all mods that you use for each version of KSP

I've got separate mod archive folders for KSP installs and any mods that I've used going all the way back to 0.17

another update, another hysteria :D

I have multiple versions on my PC still working fine in separate folders. Even though I'm not a big fan of mods.
Why can't you make your own stable setups with all your mods and play them forever without crying nonsense like "stop improving the game" :steamfacepalm:
Totally agree. I managed to catch this when I was playing last night. Game rashed, when I restarted it started to update. I screamed NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! , stopped the update within 30 seconds and then copied the entire KSP folder to a different drive, game works , with mods when I run it directly fro mthe exe. OTOH if I start the updated version it dies.

And which mods would that be? I've been playing this game just as long and I dare you to name a few examples, because honestly I cannot come up with any. Also some mods were continued and updated under a different name.

Also you can opt into a beta branch of previous versions, down to version 1.0.5. Since you don't own the game on Steam, I suppose you own it via their website. Wasn't it possible to download even older versions of the game via their website? Also so many more and great mods have been made in the past few years. I wouldn't like to play the 5 year old version which didn't even have career mode, it only had sandbox and much less stock parts and game mechanics and a lot less mods. Are you sure you would like to go back to that old version?

People are not very smart it seems. Squad make the game, they release updates for the product they sell and new content. Its up to the modders to keep up with that, not the other way around.

Done with this game. They killed all good mods with so many dumb ♥♥♥ updates recently. Just when some good ones come back online they just update and break it all again. ♥♥♥♥ this dev team . Make a new game instead of ruining this one.
Most if not all the good mods are on gitub, so instead of ♥♥♥♥♥ing, moaning and freeloading, how about some support for the modders?

Support as in thanking them or donating to them?

If you really can't do anything else, donating certainly isn't a bad thing.

Not everything in the development process is rocket science though, there is grunt work to be done too, if only proofreading and fixing typos, that is appreciated as well, and github is easy enough to learn to use.
