Half-Life 2
Need Motivation
I caved in a while ago and bought Half-Life complete for 10$ when it was on sale. I felt I had to try it because pretty much everybody says its the best game series.
So I started with Half-Life: Source thinking I should start from the start but I just found it unplayable, I played 20 mins and was bored. Then I tried HL2 and I did find it more fun, I didn't find it that amazing after 1 hour of playing. Does it get better? Because I'm finding it pretty average at this point.

Yes it does! Of course it gets better, more interesting, at least from my perspective, the episodes, aw, instense when soemthing dangerous happens!

Though, I almost felt the same way when I first played HL2, then I played the Episodes, and boom! Way more fun! Because sticking around characters more often gives that sense! But there's that reason I don't play HL2 much anymore, because it's not as awesome as the Episodes, in my opinion, it get's a tad boring in some areas, and feels like it goes on forever, but it's still worth it, it's a great game in itself, and the storyline? One of the best I've known so far, and it continues along with the episodes, and they get better, I'd suggest you play HL2 and finish it first before heading down into the episodes...

Alright, I'll give it another try this weekend when I have the time. How long is HL2 and each episode approximately?
If you're still in City 17 the game sucks.
When you get to Ravenholm it gets better.

Stick with it man, it's one of my all time favorites.
City 17 gets better when you get a submachine gun, and also, think about it, if you don't complete HL1 you won't have a full grasp on the storyline.
The first game is extremely slow at first. It takes about two hours for the game to pick up and get exciting, but it's amazing once it does.

Yup. I'm playing Black Mesa and my god, it's a masterpiece. It's fun and interesting from start to finish.

Nothing will ever replace the nostalgic feel of a '90s game though.

Wasn't Black Mesa greenlight? Because I can't find it on Steam.

Well, it's on the page called ModDB, but they haven't got Xen finished yet, still, if you want to get it, find ModDB and search up Black Mesa... It's great, the graphics and textures are similar to that of HL2, because it was re-made onto the Source Engine, so the graphics looks way better than old HL1...

Well, HL2's the longest, I'd say, it takes up to 10 hours to complete, maybe more if your planning on taking it slow. HL2 Episode 1, no more than 3 hours, 3 hours tops though if your playing it slowly like HL2, I can finish it in an hour and a half. HL2 Episode 2, now this is a little bit more longer than Ep1, so I'd say maybe about 4 - 5 hours tops, I can finish it in 113 minutes, that was using my speedrun practice. Hope this helps, I may need to play them again and time myself...

The episodes gave me 6 hours of gameplay each, according to steam. HL2 gave me maybe 16 hours of gameplay on the first run. I don't like to speedrun; I like to explore, appreciate the work put into making the game atmospheric and to make sure I'm not missing any secrets or tidbits of story.
