Idea: Steam Trading Cards from Achievements
1st of all: Yes this is not the right place to post about this. But for some reason i have been permanently banned from posting in the Steam Discussion :-(

2nd of all: Yes someone has probably come up with this idea before, i'm just wondering why Valve hasn't implented it yet.

Now for the actual idea:

My idea is simple: Add a bunch of special steam cards that you can get from completing certain achievements in the games.

Why? Cause it would be awesome! The whole thing about just receiving cards for your time played seems a bit random, and adding these trading cards would also make achievement hunting a lot more fun :D And since these cards would actually require some skill to get, there'd be more sense in collecting them (At least in my opinion).

Whether or not these cards should be marketable can be discussed. I personally wouldn't mind other people just buying them instead of getting them with skills (Though i definitly would not do so myself), but i bet some people would be against it... Either one would be fine with me really.

So why hasn't Valve made it yet?? It seems like a wasted opportunity if you ask me. Also since the cards would be harder to get they'd be worth more on the market (If they we're marketable), which would result in more money in Valves pocket (Since they take 15 % or something), and we all know they love that :P

So what do you think?? Is there any reason not to make this??

Yes, there are reasons not to make that. I think they are even in the Trading Card FAQ.

Well alright there we're some reasons there, but no good ones:

"Trading Card drops are currently just tied to playtime within a game, independent of which achievements you are getting. We will definitely look into adding more rules for how cards are dropped in the future, but there are a few problems with in-game achievements that prevented us from using them right now. Many games have achievements that are grindy or un-fun to get, and we want the act of getting game cards to be fun for all users in games. We also don't want to push users to cheat or use achievement-unlockers in games in order to get cards, since that devalues achievements and isn't that fun either. Achievements are still valuable, and having the Achievement Showcase on your community profile is a great way to show off those rare achievements."

Achievements being un-fun and grindy is just a bad excuse really. Most achivements are not like that and the cards could just be awarded for some achievements (And not the grindy ones, i f they think it's such a big prolem). Besides it's not like the current system of getting cards is much fun. You can technically just let the game run without playing it and still get cards...

And cheating and achievemnt-unlocking?? Well i thought Valve was supposed to stop people from doing such things, using that as an excuse just makes them seem lazy...

I still don't see any good reasons to not do it.
