Solution to friendly fire?
Would it be that hard to institute a damage reflection mechanic? I'm rather tired of getting cut down by my teammate or getting shot in the back by an archer shooting into a melee. I feel like if friendly fire damage was reflected back unto the attacker, it would result in a much more wary community of players. Just a thought.

Eh. You shouldn't blatantly run beside teammates who are spamming attacks.
Always try and fight alone, or if a teammate is fighitng wait for one to die, then jump in and fight.
Taking turns may be time consuming and might sound stupid, but it saves yourself from an embarassing, idiotic, death.

Agreed; except you can't protect yourself from dumb archers trying to kill steal.

I don't blatantly run into other people melees. However, 8 out of 10 Vanguards or Knight do and they are LMBing away. My MAA game suffers alot because of this...

I know how you feel, bro. Try smaller servers, or even Duel servers.

There really isnt a soultion..

Many games suffer this and will name one , mount and blade, which usually has less forgiving gamers and will kick w/o warning or after giving a warning.

If the players would regulate themselves w/ such votes for tk's then players would be more carefull when swinging swords wildly and shooting arrows.

BUT

the kick vote is broken here and someone can jump right back into the same server after each and every kick which makes it hard to regulate anything.

modes like king of the hill ( especially arena map ) are hard to play/win without tk's.
sure if 2 trained teams with strategic mentalities fought against each other and more importantly fought as a strategic minded team then the tking would be a whole bunch less but this isnt going to be the case when jumping on random servers.

Best bet is to play in private servers ranked or not ranked w/ the hopes of finding players who take chivalry a bit more "seriously" but thats just it, chivalry is more of a casual and non-strategic game to whcih just about everyone has and does kill a fellow team mate at some point..

Some will say "if you havent killed a team mate in chivalry your playing it wrong", lol not my words.

I used to get upset at team kills until i happened to make the same mistake and now i just get upset when people do not appologize,lol..

So for me its beyond fixing and i am at the point where i only get upset if it happens a bit too much by the same player or if one does at least acknowledge doing it and making some sort of appology..

Well I would hope that in a melee you wouldn't just swing wildly, disregarding the safety of your battle brothers. Utilise those stabbing and overhead attacks. If you're getting team killed constantly then just stay away from other people.
If you get shot in the back by archers on your team, harass them by kicking them, cutting them and insulting them until they leave.

You can't get rid of friendly fire, it's part of combat it happen back then and still happens today. I'm sure archers fired into masses of people engaged in colse quarter battle all the time.

If friendly fire was always set at 100% and teamkilling had a penalty (Sorry but -10 score is no penalty at all, not in the slightest) then the problem would very quickly solve itself. People would learn not to M1 while standing in a crowd of team-mates.

While it isn't a perfect solution, by any means, I generally try to position myself 180 degrees away from my own teammates when attacking someone. The benefits to this are twofold. One, it's much more likely that my teammate will *see that I'm there* and stop wild M1 spamming, and two, it makes a combination attack much harder/impossible to defend against, and additionally, it adds a little more distance than usual between me and my teammate, allowing for more room for error.

Also - a way to be a huge prick against good defenders/shielded opponents when you outnumber them is to time a kick on them to lower their block so your teammate can land a good hit. Works best in corners/against walls, obviously, but it's a guaranteed kill when executed correctly. Again, obvious, but this is usually best attempted with a coordinated friend in-game, rather than a random pub player.

mirror damage would make trolling even worse. they'd just dive into friendly swings the whole time.
carrion Jan 13, 2013 @ 3:16pm
what you're proposing might work as a band-aid for public noob- or troll-ladden servers, but it would be absolutely ridiculous in more competitive settings. i'd say give people some time to learn. the rest quits anyway.

It shouldn't be "fixed" because there's nothing wrong with it.
Archers and vanguards alike should use their heads before acting, and sometimes friendly fire can be quite hilarious!

Really what it needs is a bigger score punishment for TKing. Remove a kill for every TK. People are score driven after all, that's why I hate playing Offence on TO anymore -- mouth breathers get distracted by large numbers.

damage reflect should be avaible for last team standing at least.
Peaceful Panda Jan 14, 2013 @ 6:40pm
I was surprised to see that TKs did not a give a -1 to kills. This is pretty standard, and would be much more effective than a negligible -10 to score.
