Too frustrating

You are right it can be very frustrating. Definitely not for everyone. But if you keep at a level, 50 times if even that much, you should eventually get the gist of how the AI is in terms of where they go and what they might do. Is there a specific level that is breaking your balls?

I have a strategy that has worked pretty well for me. Get the Fists of Fury Mask and simply use guns to attract bad guys. Then just punch right around the corner of a door. They will all file in and you will kill them all with one punch.

I completed it in the end but it was a slog. The enemies have superfast aimbot reactions. One hit kills you even with non lethal weapons. Even if you got knocked down like the enemies do it would be reasonable. Windows as well, damn it's annoying when you get shot through one because you couldn't see far enough to see the guy on the other side with the gun. I think I will stick to games from my own generation =/

First of all, well done getting to the end. Secondly, this game is comparable to Super Meat Boy, another game of this generation: it's designed to be challenging, you're supposed to die a lot, and you need to have a lot of patience and determination in order to get better and succeed. The fact you managed to finish the game shows that you have these admirable qualities.

If you're getting shot from mobsters off-screen, remember that you can hold Shift to look around and press the middle mouse button to lock onto enemies. I strongly recommend that new players take each level slowly so that they can learn the level layout and how enemies behave. Usually you can rush enemies before they can even react, or coax them into following you around a corner where you can ambush them. It's also worth remembering that most enemies are as fragile as you are and that you'll get better at the game with every death.

That's good advice, and that's been my experience as well. It just takes a LOT of patience to get through some of these levels the first time through. I find it especially difficult when areas have multiple rooms with 3+ guys patrolling around. I feel like I'm just doing it wrong when I fire off a round to draw them out and then spray the place into a smoldering pile of rubble. It's just so much quicker and easier than going around methodically thinning the herd one by one just to get mauled by a dog 5 minutes later.
Two things I would like to make the game a bit less frustrating: the ability to continue a chapter from the floor I last visited instead of the very beginning (after exiting to the menu), and the ability to quicksave mid-floor so I don't have to start all over (if the very last guy gets a shot in when I lunge at him from behind).
I have to admit that I loved using CheatEngine and blasting through the game with God mode and infinite ammo (only available for the "original version"). I wish the game had those features built in for players who love to just blow things up. This game is PERFECT for it. :D

Frustrating = fun. Everytime I died I was like OH NO YOU DIDN"T!! And kept replaying until the level was finished.

If it wasn't difficult this game wouldn't be fun at all. I'm glad one of my buds recommended this game to me or I would have never given it a try.

I don't agree that frustration=fun. It should take 2 hits to kill you, that would be more reasonable.

I think this game is hard, but not too hard (like Binding of Isaac, that IS frustrating!).
It is very challenging in a good way and I am so much looking forward for Hotline Miami 2!

You actually get some progress saved on each floor, so that is pretty darn kind of them. I agree w/ @Sense The Escape that Isaac is frustrating. I never became overwhelmed w/ frustration in Miami. A lot of the time it was like dying was funny or that "almost" moment where you inched a little closer.

Huh, maybe, console versions (i'm playing on Vita) have lower difficulty, dut i don't find it frustrating (i mean Meatboy-fruestrating, or even Guacamelee-frustrating) at all. It's like "oh, i'm dead, i can crash sculls and wreck bloody carnage again!", not "i've tried to jump my way through the god forsaken spikes for an hour, but made a stupid mistake and died".

after playing this game for a while i can say that it isnt frustrating... if anything its challenging.
