PSA: Mod filters
Only LUA mods are detected. Stop whining about texture mods, these are mod_overrides or .pdmod. Same goes for sound mods and such.
Huds, waypoint mods, difficulty/weapon overhaul are detected as they're LUA mods. Same goes for BLT itself.

I think the problem is the way they tried to seperated the modded user and none-modded user with just detecting lua mods since some mods is not even a gameplay changing mod. I think it will make more confusion to other players especially the people who don't understand that using mods =\= cheating

So how long before we start seeing mods to suppress the mod check?
Seven Oct 21, 2017 @ 10:53am
Well, I'm pretty sure I could give you one right now if you'd like.

This. Lol.

Anti-crash mods are cheats as they give a direct advantage to the mod holder.

I would take it if you happen to have one :profgenki:

Not sure that'd be appreciated by the powers that be. I should also note that all I've done is look at the code because I was curious how they'd do it, so I could very well be wrong and they have something else up their sleeve, but it looks pretty much like an honor-system. Which is fine, I don't mind that option in theory, though I think it's pretty dumb to divide the community over it, but I highly question its value as an anti-cheat mechanism. Even if there's something I'm missing, there will be cheats to bypass it sooner rather than later.

So are fix mods for 4-year-old bugs like this

https://modworkshop.net/mydownloads.php?action=view_down&did=1458

that should have been fixed at launch or sometime these last few years.

Cosmetic mods are cheats you hackers because they give the user a feel good boost to the looks of their guns which improves their gameplay and thus are hacks.

So modded users can still play with unmodded right? If not this is the most ignorant thing I have ever seen. I don’t really care if people use mods.

"How dare you use a waypoint mod!"
"You use a hitmarker mod, you filthy scumbag, go die in a fire!"

Yes, but the host can decide to make their lobby unavailable to mod users.
People have been whining because "it's not fair for retextures mods", but only LUA and BLT mods are counted, hence this thread.

They could have made "A retexture mod? Burn, heretic cheater!".

People are going to play their "mah hud" card.

It was more of a joke because I know it's going to happen :) As I posted elsewhere, I'm actually perfectly happy playing by myself or in small teams with my friends. If random pubbies stop joining my lobby because I'm a dirty mod-user, then so be it.

I must be misunderstanding here. I thought an honour system would require the mods themselves to in some way announce their presence, for which an existing channel hasn't existed before. I expected Overkill to do stuff similar to old Unreal Engine games and do a code comparison between what the server (in this case whatever runs Crime.net) expects and what the player's providing. Or maybe "what the player is providing" is the honour part? If so, that would be hilariously easy to circumvent.

I honestly don't think Overkill are doing this for cheater prevention. I doubt their programmers would be one-dimensional enough to think a change like that could ever work. I actually think this is the opposite - a way of ending the "war on mods." Back in the day, there existed an impled agreement between Overkill and mod-makers that gameplay-changing mods were acceptable as long as their presence is announced to other people. That obviously comes with caveats, of course - noclib god mode stuff is still a cheat. That seemed to break down in recent times somewhat, with TdlQ's Keepers being slagged as a "cheat" (which is when I stopped caring what Overkill consider to be cheating), but this might be an attempt to bring some structure back into the mix.

My hope here is that Overkill's inclusion of the filter signals the wider acceptance of the more grey-area mods. Yes, maybe even stuff like Silent Assassin and Carry Stacker and Hostage Escort Tweaks and the like. I would be overjoyed if that were the case. Far as I'm concerned, people can run whatever the ♥♥♥♥ they want where it doesn't affect me, but I DO want to know what they're running when we play together. This system doesn't do that, of course - that would require integration with BLT or even more of an honour system - but it's a step in the right direction.

Ultimately, if people don't want to play with mods then they shouldn't be forced to do so. As long modded lobbies are included in the list by default and require players to manually disable it if they want to, then I don't see much of a problem. If anything, I'm getting "vote kick" vibes from the whole affair.
