So how exactly does the drill work?
How does the drill work? Just looking at it I don't immediatley understand what this big orange boxy thing is. I see there is a typical power drill mounted on a track, but I'm curious how it's supposed to be pushed forward, how it's supposed to stick to whatever you mount it to, what exactly happens when it's jammed, how that gets fixed

The drill's mechanism is actually quite simple: A trigger switch activates an electric motor, which in turn drives a rotating chuck. Numerous accessories can fit into in the chuck, allowing the drill to bore holes, drive screws, and sand, polish, and grind a wide variety of materials.

It is just a drill which is made in china

Nobody knows. It's just like magnet mang

it probably has a computer in it to calculate how far the drill goes in so it moves when it has drilled certain increments, so it doesn't just sit there drilling an empty space where it just drilled, and doesnt apply too much force that the drill bits constantly break and make Chains go just as psychotic as Wolf as a result. lol

It sticks using magnets

First you might want to ask why the drill can be packed into a relatively small bag, that we could easily carry around and throw it on the floor without breaking it.

Why do you think that the drill jams every 2 seconds.

because it made in china.

because we have a 4 dimensional A.S.S

I'm more surprised we have to carry around a thermal drill but we literally have infinite drills in out pockets

I think the drill checks every second if it should jam and every time it does not jam its probability to jam gets higher till he jams and then resets

I was a machinist for many years so I can actually answer this.

Google "mag drill" and you'll start to get an idea. They are actually pretty common and used as a job site drill press for drilling into flat pieces of ferrous metal, usually either a vertical or overhead surface which would be too tiresome and in accurate to drill by hand. (though most are manually fed and don't have a computer screen and require an A/c power source).

The drill motor is attached to the trackway, and the large orange box part is actually an electro-magnet. When you flip the switch on the magnet the magnet is activated providing a powerful magnetic force to stabilize the whole assembly on the work piece.

There are auto-feed mag drills where the feed rate (the speed at which the drill bit is fed into the work piece) can be adjusted, allowing the operator to not have to manually advance the bit. These auto feed drills can usually either be set by feed rate in inches/min or in ft/lbs or pressure or lb/ft or torque exerted on the bit.

Generally when an auto-feed drill jams it is because the bit has galled, due to overheating of the bit or irregularities of the material being drilled, or breakage of the bit.

All of the above are IRL devices on which the drills in PD2 are based. Below are the ways they are not realistic:

They do not have a computer screen. Some of the auto-feed drills have a small, simple LCD readout that state drill motor RPM and feed rate, but never the time left

Mag drills are always plugged in. The amount of electricity required to power the electro-magnet and drill motor is more than a battery pack can provide, IMHO, although they may exist.

Mag drills usually weigh over 50lbs each due to the amount of copper wiring required to make the electro magnet. The PD gang are seemingly able to carry an infinite amount of them, re: train heist. Couple that with a 500lb bag of gold bars, a minigun with several hundred rounds of ammo, a quad missile launcher and level 4 ballistic body armor and the amount of gear each Payday gang member can carry is over 1000lbs.

Maybe that's why we can only carry one key card at a time :p

Edit:apparently battery powered mag drills do exist, although they are meant for thinner metal. www.milwaukeetool.com/power-tools/cordless/2787-22
