A message from the writer...
Hello all.

As of late 2017, Payday 2 has a new writer in charge of in-game narrative and lore. Now that you’ve had a little time to digest the recent events that have befallen our heroes, I figured it was time to stick my head up from behind the ever-growing pile of parchment I dwell under. Call me Joe. I’ve been doing game design/narrative for 15+ years, so you’re in seasoned hands as we steamroll towards the end of the PD2 story. So far, you’ve seen my guiding quill in the implementation of our own gentleman adventurer-heister Duke, the Reservoir Dogs and Brooklyn Bank heists, as well as all the recent intrigue surrounding Locke, Bain, Garrett and… well... you’ll find out more soon enough!

Folks often talk about “what is canon” in Payday, and my own take on that is: EVERYTHING, in one way or another. I view the heists with the idea of them being anecdotes- legendary tales as told by the people involved, long after they actually happened. With each telling of a story, something always changes or gets embellished. No one ever remembers things exactly the same way; it’s the nature of the grape vine. Was there really a gremlin inside Chains’ shotgun that one time, or did he just miss the shot? Who knows. I guess you just had to be there (though Chains insists it’s the former).

I can’t promise we’ll tie up every loose end (some things are better left unknown), nor can I really talk a lot about specifics here, but know that I don’t do things willy-nilly or “just for the hell of it”. And while some resolutions might hurt, others will taste like blueberry pie and coffee. Fate, after all, can be a fickle mistress and her best stuff tends to be bittersweet. But I’ll certainly try to keep you entertained this year and beyond, with whatever comes next. So pay attention to all the usual venues and keep your eyes open for new ones, ‘cause there’s a lot of stuff coming.

//Joe

I've been reading through a lot of payday's history, and I have a few theories of my own in regards to your recent narrative updates. So I hope you can tie up as many of those loose ends as possible!

As long there's no more goat based heists, I think I can like you :alte:

I was just wondering why there was an actual story with the recent heists, now I know why. Also:

EVERYTHING is canon, in one way or another huh?

"Wolf invented Shrinking ray in lab rats" is now canon!

But in serious note, can't wait to see where recent story is going to take us.

That's my take on Jiro's story. At least from his introduction, his life has been troubles. When there is a resolution to the Jiro/Kento storyline, I hope it is not a happy ending. That doesn't fit. At best, only a bittersweet ending is suitable.

At some point hoxton talks about the real names of the gang guys it would be nice to explore a bit the beginning of the story

Well, i can see Jacket easily canon, consider he got HM arcade cabinet in his hangout, pointing out that in PD2 universe, HM is a video game franchise. So Jacket in PD2 is someone insane enough to become a videogame character

As for Scarface, yeah i got nothing. My bet is someone who wants to Tony's legend to live on.

That's the running theory, both of them would have a psycopathic version of Celebrity Worship Syndrome.

Welcome to the forums Joe, you've contributed to much of the best parts of the writing in this game and I hope you keep at it. The game wasn't doing so hot before your recent additions but it seems to be on the right track now.
So... welcome :D

Nice Beyond Yesterday profile picture btw // can't hide from me

Welcome, also what kind of games did you write before payday 2? just curious

You've been handling this really well given the chaos of the development cycle- my compliments!

edit: and really nice work on the research with the languages. I appreciate the ongoing improvements in the riddle design.

I'm not sure if you are actively watching this thread or not, but I have to ask.

Were you the one who wrote the storyline entries and what the heck is up with the "using the diamond as the tip for the drill in Golden Grin" when we don't even actually use a drill in GGC and the Dentist explicitly saying he will fence the Diamond after we steal it? It is seriously one of the most baffling retcons I have ever seen, especially with how much lore the Diamond has behind it from the trailer, to be wasted like that on a "drill".
