Worms Armageddon

Worms Armageddon

[solved] Worms not starting with ProjectX on Windows 10 (Failed to load PX3D library!)
Hi,

my Worms Armageddon suddenly stopped working with ProjectX. (It may have been after win10 reinstall, cant remember if i already played Worms after reinstalling).

I tried with my Steam version and install from original Worms CD. Both are resulting in the same issues. (For Steam version i used the installer from the forums here, for original CD i updated it with WA_update-3.6.31.0_Beta_Installer.exe and then extracted PX 0.80 to the Worms folder and updated afterwards with PXUpdater.exe, added wormkit.exe from this url: http://worms.thecybershadow.net/wormkit/wormkit.zip and started with wormkit)

It always results in nothing happening on start and the only error log i can find is in pxlog.txt :
Log started
Project X! Version : 0.8.0.3104
for WA 3.6.31.0
WormKit Module
Unlocked code region
Unlocked data region
Loading from : px3d.dll
Failed to load PX3D library!
Error : Das angegebene Modul wurde nicht gefunden
Can't load PX3D unit, terminating..

File px3d.dll is in worms directory. Even tried with the copy of px3d.dll of a friends worms.

As soon as i remove wkPX.dll it is starting again, other wormkit modules are working.

Thanks and greetings
Herbert

Found the solution in pxforums http://px.worms2d.info/forum/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=2065
Only had directx 10 installed, installing directx 9 solved the issue.

Stop trying to force PX on Windows 10. It's ♥♥♥♥. Downgrade your OS or get a cheap computer to play on the side.

There's nothing wrong with running PX on either Windows 8 or Windows 10. Project X enables the same DirectX 9 renderer as the later updates (even better as it's technically an actual 32-bit mode, and uses DX9 extensions), and you have the same full performance in-game as on earlier systems.
The only issue you may have is with the front-end menus. To fix them, you can either place this DLL file[files.steps.club] in your game's directory (no registry equivalent for the compatibility option enabled by the dll), or use the old ddraw windowed mode (wndmode.dll), which can be found here: https://worms2d.info/WormKit

By the way, the problem explained in the OP applies to all clean Windows systems. Including Windows 7, Windows XP, 2000 and Vista. Because there's no extended DirectX9 DLL set by default on either system, it must be downloaded and installed from the Microsoft website. One notable extension DLL used by PX is d3dx9_33.dll, which is not present in system by default (only d3d9.dll itself is present -- and only d3d9.dll is used by the later versions of the game).
It is useless to suggest "getting a cheap computer" because PX actually requires a powerful computer.
