Do I honestly have to make an account to play this game?
This Stardock account... really? Steam isn't enough?

Its Stardocks game, not Steams. Its Steam you don't need, as the 3rd party.

You can run this w/o steam.

Viewpoint, should be;
Do I honestly have to make an account WITH STEAM to play this game?

..and you don't.

Ha, funny. You don't get the differance in viewpoint instead you try to distort and discredit. We see what you are up to. I am pretty sure it was not ment to be funny.

Well, fortunately I bought the game on Steam and not through physical copy. Therefore, this game REQUIRES STEAM to be played on if one has purchased it via Steam. Since I wanted to valid what I have to say, I quit Steam and manually double-clicked FE. Steam was logging in and the game launched with the account setup.

To your viewpoint: Yes, you do if you purchase this game on Steam. Physical copy that was not purchased via Steam? More likely, No.

Why is this necessary? Is there a point to why I must make an account? Is there additional add-ons, weekly giveaways; new products on the horizon, etc.?

I just find it odd that out of my 500+ games this game requires me to make an account just too even play it. The only other titles that do anything similar are filled with SecuRom (or whatever that foul piece of♥♥♥♥♥♥is) DRM and requires that EVERY game you play on has to be registered via that damnable software.

So, I guess the real question is: Does this have its own DRM? If so, Steam isn’t enough for it? I’m asking simple questions that do not insult this game as I’ve only read positive feedback, but I’d like to take my curiosity out of this picture too, so that way I can enjoy this game.

..I am remiss. I run both FE and LH directly from the .exe with command line switch for developer mode type quik or long form testing. I never noticed Steam kick in with LH. Wupps.
FE on the other hand does not. I even have it on a second boot for clean or seperate mod setups, and it has no Steam at all. I had planned to put LH over there too.

With registration with SD we can download directly copies from them as I did for my second boot FE. Don't know whats going to happen with LH now doing that. I'll have to check. Was a neat feature.

Ah, interesting information. I'll have to look into this. Seems like there is more potential with this game than meets the eye.

..and then I made the mistake of thinking this was the LH base. Duh. It was a long night with LH. I've had longer ones with FE. (3100hrs+)

Yea, I seen. How many times have you finished the game? I'm enjoying it so far, glad I bought it.

Heh.. not as may game as you migh think. I like the big game. 12 players+ on large and everything set to dense. A few have taken over 100hrs.

I now have 23 custom factions with units.. (+clones of original 8 upgraded) cleaned them up getting ready for huge Anthys2, with 24 starts. Side tracked a bit with LH I just got. So now to decide to do it with LH or FE..!

Haha, hard choice indeed! So, to place 12+ playable factions into the game, you have to make the other ones? I like big battles/campaigns, just not a lot of games give this much freedom when making units/factions. Having my own faction and thus making my own units is a very nice touch to this game.

I've played Warlock, Master of the Arcane and I like that game, but when I read about FE, I was really surprised on what all comes with it. But you also mention 24 starts, does this mean 24 factions at one time? And what is Anthys2?

I thought exactly the same thing. <Do I have to make an account?> And the game annoyed me further within the 1st hour. I'm not happy having to make a Stardock-Account just to play an offline campaign. This behavior in my eyes is userunfriendly.
BUT I also want to mention: The game really started off on the wrong foot for me, yet then won me over with it's refreshing new engine. I love the way the player can customize characters and units. This gives strategy-games back a master of orion feel ^^.

Yes.. 24 faction starts.

Anthys comes in the Map pack DLC along with more area chunks for making random maps.
Anthys2 is a tweek I posted in FE and LH boards that changes a couple things in the file making it much more playable.

The resources are pretty thin in the original, like only 8 Horse ranches, no Wargs at all and ships that trap an AI Sov' (and thier army) which cripples a faction. The tweek gives you the game control panels back that let you set densities for all the stuff on top of what is already there.

Anthys is a very nice crafted map, thin on resources and overly huge for 8 factions.
Antys2 gives it legs and replayability.

I needed to clean up enough of my factions to play it maxed.

Great fun..

Dammit, just bought the game and then noticed I need to create yet another account just to play the game. Sigh, that's some wasted money then :(
Kinder Bueno Oct 17, 2013 @ 12:24pm
Same for me, I won't create anymore accounts if I don't have to. It's a showstopper for me, yes, I kow it's free, I just fed up with accounts.
CrossDressiNate Oct 17, 2013 @ 2:23pm
It's not like you have to go through ridiculous amounts of DRM like for EA or Ubisoft games. It takes less than a minute to sign up and you can use the account for every stardock game. I live in wine country, but have never seen so many whiners.
