Does Gateways really need HiDef XNA Profile?
Gateways refuses to launch on my Parallels 8 VM running Win 7, with Radeon 6750M. It complains that I don't have a "HiDef" XNA profile, which may be beyond Parallels' translation ability. Gateways is the first game that I've encountered to actually not work on this setup, Skyrim runs fine, Alan Wake even drags by at 20 FPS. I never figured on a little 2D romp being incompatible, and am sorry I bought before getting the demo.

Edit - the new build (1.12 Humble) works. Thanks dev!

Did you properly install the pre-requesites?

Go to Steam > Steamapps > Common > Gateways > Redist > XNA FX Redist and run that installer if you haven't.

If it still doesn't work then I dunno' what to tell you. Gateways runs without flaw for me.

I installed the Humble Store version, and tried again with the Steam build. Both give me the error "No Suitable Graphics Card Found. Could not find a Direct3D device that supports the XNA Framework HiDef Profile..."
Yes, sorry, Gateways does require the HiDef profile.
Cool then. Guess I can't play the game I just bought.

What is this hi-def profile anyway?
Thanks. Oh, by the way, did you realize that your two games are not showing as by the same company? You have smudged cat games and then smudged cat games, ltd. If you fix it you might get an extra few sales, you never know. I quite often click a developer to see their other games on steam.
Thanks for the warning, I'll be sure to mention that to the Steam guys.
I also get this error when I try to run on Windows 7 64bit, 4 gigs of ram, with a Intel HD video card on my laptop. I re-installed/repaired all the XNA, dotnet and DirectX tools and it still errors. I also did the Windows 7 troubleshooting section. I see no reason why it shouldn't work for me. I had one other steam game Hamiltons Great Adventure that won't work, but I can play Diablo 3, or Torchlight 2, or any other game I've tried. Even Adventures of Shuggy works great.

Toshiba Satellite A505-S6005:
Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator HD w/ 32-1696MB dynamically allocated shared graphics memory.

Thoughts?
If you get the message about no suitable graphics card being found that supports the HiDef profile then your graphics card simply isn't going to be able to run the game. It's not a bug, the game won't be able to run. Shuggy uses the Reach profile which is why it works.
That is quite disappointing to hear that even though my pc seems to match your specs it won't work. This seems to be something to do with XNA games, I have DirectX 11 with no issues. I was really excited to play this game too. :( I love indie games and supporting indie developers.

You might want to upload your demo to steam or strongly suggest people try your demo first before purchasing. If you ever decide to release a 'Reach profile' version of the game, I would love to try it out. I'm sure it would be complicated to downgrade to that profile based on what i've read.

So... bump and all, crucify me. Maybe there should be a thing saying that people without this XNA framework thing won't ever be able to play? Bought this when it was on sale, and I'm honestly not that angry because it was like, $4, but still... If I had known I couldn't ever play I wouldn't have paid. Sorry. :(
Wow, i'm really glad I read this. You folks really ought to include this little factoid in your system requirments. Who's idea was it to use it, anyways? Hope you refunded the guy who ended up not being able to play the game.
If anyone is in doubt there is now a free demo available. If that works then the full game will.
