Why XBOX 360 controller?
Seriously? What in the world is the point of requiring an XBOX 360 controller? I have plenty of USB controllers lying around, but no 360 controllers. Is this just intended to give me the finger? I've seen this trend happening quite a lot lately; every game developer seems to think that the only controller there is is the 360's, and the only configuration you need is the one they supply. My button 3 is not the same as the 360's button 3 is not the same as another controller's button 3. I need to change them.

This is, literally, ... wow, you children need some strong censors here, huh? This is literally "stupid". You must allow me to use the controller I want to on a PC. I can sort of understand forced setups on consoles (I'm still surprised when I can't change the buttons around to what I want, but I can change them to predetermined options :/), but on a PC, it's just pure insanity to FORBID me from altering my setup.

Yes there are programs to convert from a controller to a 360 controller, but that shouldn't be necessary. I am very irate with respect to this issue.

Xbox 360 Controllers have become the standard controller for PC Gaming for quite a few years now and many games are 360 Controller or nothing.

So given its not like just this one game and has been going on for like over 5 years I cant understand why your so "annoyed" just get a 360 controller and move along 3rd party ones are not that expensive, and given you even mention and app that can convert your commands onto any other controller... I dont see what the problem is here

Yes, this happens in many games. When I notice it I remark on it. I doubt any developer will ever take note because people are complacent enough to believe that spending an extra 20$ on something you don't need is fine.

I have controllers that work, and I don't have any 360 controllers.

1, I own a PC, and PC should always have customizable controls because PC comes in so many configurations. It's impossible for your default controls to be comfortable for everyone and it's very easy to implement customizable controls.

2, I shouldn't have to ever buy an extraneous peripheral, especially if I already own it. (I own a controller; why do I need to buy a controller with exactly the same number of buttons and axes and the same connections?)

3, it's not a matter of "two clicks and your controller works like a 360". It only took thirty minutes to get my controller working with this game, instead of the hour it took with the last one, but that's still just silly.

Ah crap, I'm going through my Steam backlog at the moment (thank you Steam sales) specifically looking for games that don't use X-Box controllers. I only jumped on this forum to see what I could do about the game being windowed to fullscreen as opposed to proper fullscreen and I read this.
Crap.
I don't plan on ever buying an X-Box controller. Offset sticks, I just don't get it. Onto the next game, I guess.

While most of the game can be played with a gamepad, the flying levels will be much, much easier with a mouse and keyboard. I beat the game with mouse and keyboard so the controls aren't complicated enough to need a gamepad. Just WASD, a jump button, a fire button, a grenade button, and the mousewheel to switch weapons. That's it.

So don't let the lack of proper gamepad support stop you from playing this awesome game.

u are apsolutly right ...i was also like WHAAATT??
and the more annoying part is that more and more games are actualy asking/commending to use the 360 controler for no reason.

Although I've used many generic USB controllers, the XBOX 360 controller takes the cake, so I don't see a problem with this trend. But I'm not here to advertise. If you want to use other controllers, you can always use an app like X360 Controller Emulator (x360ce), which is freely available and works on most USB gamepads. I don't see what's the problem here. Of course you can play with keyboard+mouse, but the game is just so much better with a gamepad....

this. x360 controller is default for a reason. it is popular not because greedy microsoft wants to, but because they allowed it to be used (with no ads), and people supported this. It unified console and PC experience, standardized button setup and coloured prompts (because it did it right - guide button, coloured setup with non-numeric buttons, analog triggers), all while implementing unified API, thus making it easier for people to pick up and play their games. Without configuring, memorizing button setups and such. And a lot of other manufactures picked up the trend along with the community - there is ton of controllers which act just like x360 one - there is no valid point to complain. x360ce is for controllers that are rather old, but still can be used in particular game. Gaming community is amazing - they fixed the only downside of xinput - they added backwards compatibility with old hardware. THE pc gaming community, guys who understand why. And yet some fella goes out and complain. It's all the same discussion as 'why win7?' or 'why shader model 3.0'? Because move forward, good sirs.

Funny thing is, I have an Xbox 360 controller and the game still won't let me play with it. Whatever hardware check it's running is failing. This is the only game I've ever had this issue with. Whelp, back to JoyToKey I guess.

A lot of ppl like the xbox controller - personally I prefer the layout of the ps/logitec contollers myself. There are 3rd party drivers that emulate the xbox drivers but we don't garguntee they will work bug free.

@BarcSsarc Did you set up to use the contrller to be used in the options menu? By default keyboard and mouse is used or player 1 (Limitation is due to being able to only use 1 controller for local co-op).

360 pad is the best, period... Read that the PS4 pad will work on windows as well for all the fanboys. Playing with some supernintendo-walmart-knockoff just aint gaming.
Hansen.Rocketbirds 16 października 2013 o 21:01
It can work - just not officially - there are people there who do 3rd party drivers.
Geralt 21 października 2013 o 7:46
You can easily get any USB controller working with any game that supports a 360 controller. You say you want it to be customisable? It is. Get a program that does it.

I'm sure as hell not playing with a 360 controller because, guess what? My balls have dropped.
Loius 21 października 2013 o 20:51
My objection is that I need a third program.

Time for an uninstall then.

I have options to set the buttons as I want in the menus, maybe this is recent I don't know it's the 1st time I'm starting this game :). I'm playing with a PS3 controller with no xbox360 emulation whatsoever.
