Mark of the ninja for linux
Is it unreasonnable to hope for a linux port on the future steam for linux client?
Knowing that Klei Entertainment already released Shank on that platform, and their collaboration with Runic Games who also have Torchlight, both available via Humble Indie Bundle and Steam. Fingers crossed...

Hey MTF! No plans right now, but we've heard that the game runs in Linux under Wine decently, except that the cinematics don't render. Note that I haven't tested it personally, though.

Hi biiigfoot! Yes, I saw a video of MOTN running under Gentoo with wine. I would prefer to pay for a native version than pay for the windows version and have to use wine and get my hands dirty for a mixed experience. And now that Steam for linux is on its way, it seems rather counter productive trying to install the windows version under wine.
But I am so eager to play MOTN... Thank you for your answer anyway! Cheers!

Totally reasonable. FWIW, if we did do a Linux version, we'd totally make it steamplay across all systems so you wouldn't have to re-purchase.

Oh! I had not realized you were involved in the making of the game!!!
Well, until now I was hoping a linux version was secretly developped, but it is obvious that if I want to play MOTN I will have to dive into the installation process of wine, steam and MOTN on linux...
That will be a shame not to be able to benefit from the amazing cinematics.
And what happens if I can't get the game running on my machine? Yes, it surely is not expensive but still...

Yeah, totally agree it's not ideal. The other suggestion would be to try the same process on the Shank 2 demo as it has very similar system req's. You'll need to weigh whether that's worth the time to check.

A few weeks ago I spent hours on multiple Macs setting up wine to run the original Starcraft (which no longer runs on the latest OSX) and Artemis for a LAN party. It sure took a long time, but it was a glorious party.

I finally installed Steam and Mark of the ninja on my laptop running ubuntu, and the game runs pretty well with wine 1.5.16 from the ubuntu-wine ppa.
Everything is working fine, the fantastic cinematics as well!
That would have been a shame not to see them.
I am tremendously happy with this game, it had been a long time since I had not enjoyed one that much! Thanx a lot to the Klei team!!!

Glad that worked out, and thank you! Also, good to know which Wine engine works.

Nah cmon, dont support people being too lazy/arrogant/whatever for a linux version.

Shank 2 has linux version.

if this got a linux-port i could finally trash my windows-partition. There are few games i take the time to play seriously, and this game is probably the only alternative to thief 1 and 2. All three games represent the pinnacle of stealth games for me. but this is the only one i have to run on windows. Since i participate in the open beta of steam for linux and couldnt get motn to run on play-on-linux i would have to install a third steam-instance under linux to run this in vanilla wine. then there would be chaos. but here's hoping this gets into humblebundle 8 or 9, so we can all revel in the glorious thing that is gaming on linux. and MOTN.

To the klei team: Thank you very much for this very well made game.

Hi biiigfoot! Sorry I have more questions. Is there any plans for releasing MOTN on other platforms? Like PS3? :) Or maybe the Microsoft Studio intro says it all? Is there an exclusivity (exclusiveness? (sorry i am french...) clause in the contract and it will never go somewhere else than PC and XBLA?

There was some activity on the SteamDB and Klei have been pretty good to the penguin people, so here's hoping! =)
Biiigfoot, getting to work on a linux port will be highly benefical in preperation for the Linux based SteamBox. Soon you can make a game for linux and immediately have it available for both console and pc. Pretty cool......
(oh yea, and I would buy it full price day one, but won't buy it at any price to use under wine, just my own personal preference.)

with wine you never have any garanties soft will work. i stopped install even pirated versions...
