Black screen on startup with game running in the background / no signal fix

Ok i fixed it for myself...if your having this problem try this, but first if your screen goes black alt tab out and the game should be running in windowed if thats the case you should be able to change the resolution easily enough when it gets to the main screen.

INCASE it blacks out again on the main screen try the following

Go to your alien folder within steam, steam > steamapps > common > alien isolation > DATA

Scroll down to Engine_settings.xml and open in notepad

Scroll down to these lines

<Quality name="Windowed" int="0" precedence="1"/>
<Quality name="WindowedFullScreen" int="1" precedence="2"/>
<Quality name="FullScreen" int="2" precedence="3"/>

Change "windowed" int= to 1 and the other two int=0

Save and close (but keep the folder open as were coming back to revert the numbers)

Load the game and it should work perfectly in windowed...once on the main menu set your resolution to your native or preference and close the game correctly (that means no right clicking icon on taskbar

Go back to engine_setting .xml and change the numbers back then save and close

Game should work fine now

Hi, sorry for my english (i'm french :p), but i've same problem, black screen on startup with this window: "a graphics card supporting directX 11 was not detected".
I followed your advice ("Change "windowed" int= to 1 and the other two int=0") but always the same result: "a graphics card supporting directX 11 was not detected".

I'm on WIndows 7, with NVIDIA GeForce 405. I've updated graphics card.

Damn it. Same issue here. Windowed mode doesnt solve it for me.

I'm sitting with a black window, I can see the ingame mouse cursor, but nothing else. No sound, no menus. :(

Ye the fix i posted is for people getting black screens with the game running a resolution the monitor doesn't like. Your problem isn't related to my post :(

I have this issue too, really annoying bug I was enjoying the game!

For me I fixed mine, it was because of my super bad speakers that intermittantly 'disconnect/fail'. I reset my speakers and works fine.

The issue for me then was that because the audio device wasnt detected or something it didnt do the intros and so on so didnt load.

Maybe this will help some.

Your problem may be related to drivers and as i don't experience this problem i can't go through everything myself to try fix it.

My fix here is purely for resolution problems resulting in black screen on start up
