Why tech seems so outdated?
Why technical seems so outdated by look of it? You use clunky, big disks for date, tape recorders, monitors are small, emails are presented in horrible mail system - it does not look at all as if this happens in future.

It recreates the universe in which Ridley Scott's Alien happens, that is where all of this comes from.

If you watch the film, you will find this game is quite an incredible realisation of that universe and must have taken unreal levels of painstaking work and dedication - the fact they are real fans shines though.

IMHO you should probably watch the film anyway, it's very good, and this game is so much better after you have (hence my glowing description of it).

I mean you can watch Matrix or play Deus Ex, future is much more realistic there. Technology in film and in this game is too outdated.

Shouldnt they upgrade tech for just a game? Like in Prometeus movie.

Because this game harks back to the 70/80s version of future as seen in the original films. The "anachronistic" aesthetic is much more unique-looking now anyways, then the "generic shiny holograms on a generic shiny spacecraft" that Prometheus introduced, IMO.

Retrofuturism is the term you're looking for. The Fallout games deal with this heavily, though in the slightly more generic sense of the late 50s in the US. This game deals with a specific vision of the future presented by the original film, as others have stated.

Just try to think of it as an alternate universe where the evolution of style in technology was outpaced by the advent of FTL travel.

The tech seen in Prometheus only fits in if you consider that a Company flagship would have the very best compared to what "space truckers" like the crew of the Nostromo or a budget space station like Sevastopol have to make do with, though it's still a stretch.

Consider Seegson and Weyland-Yutani in the light of many corporations today, doing things on the cheap, buying old equipment, using low-tech that doesn't require expensive technicians and engineers. If it's cheap enough, you can just abandon it, as Seegson did. In space, no one can hear you scream when it breaks down. Again.

It was the future of 1979. That's when the original movie was made. It like totally was all about the atmosphere too. And I will credit this game with completely nailing the look of the original movie, if not it's atmosphere.

Not to mention how poor search results are now. It caters to commerce and stupidity.

I read somewhere that when they started out developing this game, Creative Assembly contacted the original makers of the first Alien movie, to see what they had that could help.

They were sent a veritable treasure trove of materials, technical drawings, set designs, photographs and even some physical set components and loads of props. They got to see exactly how the sets were built and lit, photographs of various elements from angles not shown in the film. And just loads and loads of stuff.

More than enough material to meticulously recreate everything in digital form and light it just the way they did on film down to the minutest detail. No wonder this game looks so amazing.

Why not update it?

This "disks" and "keycards" and especially "computers" looks just horrible - even modern computers look better. And in future they will look even better.
