Why isn't this controller compatible?!
It originally was for Dreamcast, you'd think it would carry over. Using a keyboard is kind of frustrating.

I know :(
What controller? All I know is that the Xbox 360 controllers are only compatible with Steam games. I haven't tried any other controller, but you might go through the settings and make sure that your controller is set to the controller itself, not the keyboard.

I got a logitech dual action controller. When configuring buttons it doesn't even recognize the controller input...this isn't the first time I've run into this problem. Maybe I need to invest in a 360 controller...
Here is a program called x360ce, which allows any gamepad to be emulated as an Xbox 360 controller. With this, you will be able to map your buttons as an Xbox 360 controller would be mapped, and as soon as it's applied, your computer should come to think that your controller is an Xbox 360 controller. I haven't used it, but this is all I know of it. Check it out for yourself, hope it works for you!

The Wireless Xbox 360 controller works and I assume that the wired works also.
Both will work. I use a wired Power A Xbox 360 controller and it works perfectly. I do wish I could get a wireless, but I can't find a Bluetooth adapter anywhere in my town :/

I use keyboard and xbox 360 and they're both great but i like using the keyboard the most
The keyboard doesn't work well with these games though. It's hard to make it go in the right direction a lot of the time. I don't see how anyone can work with that :/

Use x360ce. It emulates an XBox 360 controller with your controller.

blame Microsoft and their nice FORCED standard Xinput API.

which you're all probably supporting because most of you have an xbox 360 and love it. oh the hypocrisy.

I *will* blame Microsoft, thanks, and no I don't have an Xbox, but I have Windows so that's pretty much like doing the same thing amirite?
I wouldn't wanna touch an Xbox. Many of the games I do not enjoy so to me it is just a waste of money.

There are basically 2 types of controllers out there. Xinput and DirectInput.

DirectInput dates back to Windows 95 and is a fairly old standard. This, and most modern games, require Xinput. It doesn't have to be an Xbox controller, any Xinput controller will do be it made by Microsoft, Madcatz, or hell even Logitech.

Logitech actually makes a series of wireless controllers with a little toggle switch at their bottom that allows them to support both standards at the same time.

The logitech f310 on the Xinput control settings Neko says, Logitech does work.
