There is no point in comparing scores because of how scores are calculated. The three factors are scrap colected, ships defeated and beacons explored. So if you accpet surrender in a fight, for exemple, you lose points, but there are situations where doing so is better in that
particular run. In other words, choosing the best option (gameplay-wise) can reduce your score.

Also, the game does not factor in scrap obtained for selling items, so even if you get a lot of stuff and sell all you can end up having a relatively low score. I often have amazing runs with certain ships, droping 7-8 valuable weapons and beating the boss, but my score is usually around mere 3600.

On a last note, scores can be inflated by reaching the exit of a sector and then moving left and defeating the rebel elite fighters (thus increasing the number of ships defeated). This can be entirely doable depending on your current ship loadout.

Yeah a couple of people at least have farmed their way to 10k+ scores.(around pages 3-4 of that thread checking quickly)

Now I know you said that EASY mode people need not post, but I feel inclined to do so.

Why?

Because getting a high score on EASY is much more difficult than it is on NORMAL!!!

That 20% bonus is a lot of points.

The last game of FTL I played was the epic adventure where I unlocked the CRYSTAL CRUISER A. For some reason or another I decided to name the ship after my newborn son. I had a feeling this was going to be a special game and I got the drone recovery arm early so I went in to farming mode.

After I blew up every ship I could I took down the Flagship of the rebels and ended up with a new EASY high score of 9207.

It was one of the most memorable gaming moments I have ever had.
