I cant keep any progress i've made

I know this is a rouge like and that death is permanent, however i can't even keep the ships i unlock if i close the game. Even hitting save and quit leaves me with no previous history of of ever playing the game. I uninstalled and reinstalled and no improvements. Has this happened to anyone else?

Sounds like the game is miserably failing to write your save file. Which is odd, as it writes to appdata which usually has no problems... you do still have spare space on your HDD?

Failing that, you can use FTL Profile Editor (google it), but there's usually a better solution... you could try running Steam as admin although that's usually not a great idea for security reasons (not that it matters much)...

Maybe an issue with Steam Cloud sync? Disable that and see if you can keep your progress.

Pre-igniter, automater reloader (for the blue options so events don't disable my weapons) and drone recovery arm (free 2 hull repairs per jump).

Captain's edition mod. I've got to the point where I just win 99% of my vanilla runs on hard, so that's not fun for me anymore.

So much this^^^^^ It is probably overwriting your save with an old one every time you launch from steam.
I would suggest starting steam in offline mode then trying to save.
If that doesn't work then your games borked and needs to be reinstalled.

Captain's edition mod. I've got to the point where I just win 99% of my vanilla runs on hard, so that's not fun for me anymore.

I'm still at a lowly 60% Normal win rate Usually I get wrecked in S6-7 or by the Random Flagship. (Actually... I should try FTL without the random flagship. Would probably get a 99% normal win rate)

Or just, y'know, disable the Steam Cloud on a per-game basis... right-click FTL in your Library, properties, updates, de-tick the little box...

I had this issue for a while, turns out my virus scan (bitdefender) was preventing saves. Just needed to go into the settings for bitdefender to fix it
