source engine code was leaked, Vindictus might be at risk
The source code for the source engine has recently been leaked, putting games like Team fortress 2, Garry's mod, CS:GO and even Vindictus at risk of exploits as they all use the source engine as a base.

if anyone reading this is concerned, they should likely stop playing any source game(yes, including Vindictus) in any public online capacity until further notice from valve is given.

more info about the situation here:

https://www.techradar.com/sg/news/team-fortress-2-source-code-has-leaked-and-you-can-apparently-get-malware-by-playing

https://www.pcgamesn.com/team-fortress-2/source-code-leak-csgo

https://techraptor.net/gaming/news/source-engine-source-code-leak-may-spell-trouble-for-games

The articles may reference tf2 and csgo mostly, but vindictus is also applicable as it too uses the source engine.

Game is safe. Source code leaks were from 2018. And only for TF2 and Gmod and CS:GO. Apex legends also uses source engine. But no source game is at risk. According to valve's announcement on twitter.

Bro you just can search for cs:go and tf2 twitter but here:

The entire code leak thing was fake. Yes they leaked codes actually but they were from 2018 not from today. So there was no risk for playing source games at the start. And people getting hacked was just photoshop.

Also just for information: Vindictus apex legends and other source games uses heavyly (idk how to write heavyly) modded version of source engine. So they are not in direct risk for something happened to source engine.

This is just fearmongering, and those webistes use anything for clicks, intead of saying the truth.

Techradar, uses a tweet from someone with 0 source knowledge, literally an account for heavy updates, but decides not to post the after tweet where he shows how much he doesnt know:

https://twitter.com/HeavyUpdateOut/status/1253132855036776453

Clearly baiting for clicks. Valve has already made various statements over the different service accounts they have, as an example:

https://twitter.com/TeamFortress/status/1253186403900420098

The code is not only an older version, but also it was already released or "leaked", it is a limited version, as a showcase for partners... Valve, in case you dont know, sell source engine licenses to other companies to build their games, and thats how Vindictus, and many other games, came to exist.

Also, knowing how the source engine works, doesnt mean RCE is easy to deploy or even possible, theres still a bunch of things in the way, and for the case of Vindictus, they use a heavily modded source engine, and we dont even know how much they actually changed.

Don't believe everything you read, especially when these type of "news" websites depend on clicks and running ads to stay alive.
