The torpedoes, more than anything, need a heavy nerf. I don't mind the long range lasers (so long as they're not hitscan), but seriously, smart auto-pathing torpedoes which do MASSIVE AoE damage even if you can get them to explode behind an object (beacon for example) are ridiculous.
They easy to take down an raming them are fun seeing as i take alot less damage for doing it.
I'd never know this because I picked Federation. Game was completely lying when it said it didn't affect anything but your character's background (kind of like how it calls itself an MMO!).
We can't shoot down the missiles, can we? I've tried to a few times, but it's yet to work.
Yeah, I've gone and cloak killed a few, but 50% of the time I've died on the way there or died during the fight because for some reason some of them just had absurd firepower.
Once a shot has been taken, flag the LKP (Last Known Position) for the sniper. If you want to snipe, and you're good at it, you should have to work for it.
Moving to a "move and shoot" set up is a simple solution that'd balance out snipers and make sniping a more involved and active role.
Two problems:
1 - It's not like sniping in real life. This method would work if you shot, got the kill, and then moved, but snipers aren't 1 shot machines. There is a difference between sniping being over powered and watching full mkIII loadouts taking out people that just started up that tier.
2 - Snipers are slow. Once they fire that shot and everyone knows where you're at, a warp fighter will instandly warp in and drop a loadout and boom, no more sniper.
The counters for snipers are already in the game. Sometimes all I do in a match is warp around taking them out. I suppose the downside is that at the lower tiers, that isn't "flashy" like sniping is, but really, the balance is there. You just have to either have teammates, or yourself, be willing to fuffill that role.
Also, as some have already stated, terrain can significanly hamper snipers as well.
