That place still raises my bp.
Sadly, FromSoft follows this trend even today: Great games with bad technical aspects hindering their full potential.
FromSoft and Bamco already got my money, so my thanks go out to Peter Thoman aka Durante for making this game (as well as other ports, like Tales of Symphonia) much more enjoyable on PC. He's now working as a developer and CTO full-time and officially ports Trails and Ys games to PC[games.ph3.at] and apparently, the Switch too!
Playing solo, but never "alone".
lol I feel you.
Game was already in bad shape when released, it's still playable with the REMASTERED version.
I feel the same, it was a bad port but a least we got the game on PC.
I've mentioned the community globally but I was including Durante and others modders, also players who made DS what it is now, with the memes and all others creative content.
Still not as bad as Saints Row 2's PC port
A best friend that's mean to your dog and tells inappropriate jokes to your little sister. The Bed Chaos alone is enough to have it thrown out completely. Anor Londo Archers ride a close second, but coming first is the laughable mess that has come to be known as the 'Remaster'. Did you see what they did with the Demon's Souls? Shadow of the Colossus? Dark Souls Remaster (not so much). You wouldn't think it possible but the 'remaster' actually made crap worse. I can't even even right now.
Dont try to assume what people know just cause you know nothing about them, just by checking my profile you'd see how much i know about Dark Souls.
And yeah, this being a Dark Souls forum it's a safe assumption to make that fans of the franchise would be current on the 'happenings' of that franchise. Please accept my sincerest apologies for encroaching on your delicate sensibilities. I didn't realize I was replying the 'The' Dark Souls fanboi.
And thanks
Bluepoint killed it with the audio-visual feedback in DeS:R's combat. They understood, what makes the early souls-combat so fun and satisfying. It's just, again, not really addressing gameplay related issues people pointed out over the years and jank, like with DS:R and it's just a re-make in terms sound and graphics. Under the hood, it's still just ported over OG DeS, in all it's broken and jank glory. For many vets, this is probably a plus, though.
I see the beauty in imperfection but i do wish to, at some point, to play a version of the first Dark Souls reaching it's full potential, some areas and bosses being overhauled, a new coat of paint, the "chunky" combat dialed up and all the kinks ironed out and heck, maybe even a somewhat balanced online-experience for once, if the devs feel extra daring (that last part is perhaps too unrealistic...).
Turning the game fancy, doesn't make it better or the same thing. Its just a worse copy of the game, trying to redo what the first one managed to achieve.
Here's a fact: Many people enjoy a game "turning fancy". Not just in terms of polishing up gameplay (and no game is perfect in that regard - certainly not DeS and DaS).
It's not like it doesn't matter at all, how a game looks or sounds, otherwise we can just start making only mute games consisting of nothing but functional grey shapes and wether a game looks, sounds or even plays good or not is entirely subjective.
Personally, i can always use more Dark Souls in my life and a different look or even mechanical changes, are some ways to re-experience a classic. Sadly, i can't just delete the memories of all my playthroughs.
