Damien - Spoilers!
I hope i'm not the only one who had to look themselves in the mirror after running into that trap. I'd let myself be abused and misused, even though everyone told me what would happen. I thought i could change him, but i - you - can't.
Not to say that i now can fully relate to women in the same situation. But atleast now i understand why someone would end up in a situation like that. Damn shame.

I feel you. It's one of those times you turn off the game and re-evaluate your life.

For me it was less that I wanted to change him, and more that I wanted to trust him. Even if you do achive his "good" ending, which I ended up going back to do, just to see what it was, he just reveals himself to be a pathetic creep. I was hoping for once the deamon wasn't evil...thinking about it now that was a really foolish assumption.

I really appreciate it that the writers don't indulge the fantasy of changing him, and illustrate very bluntly the consequences of trying. I remember a specific point where I thought, well, is this a silly dating sim/soap opera, or is it meant to be "real"? The anime art style, the fantastic setting and the overall resemblance to Japanese dating sims made it hard for me to tell what moral universe I was working in.

So, as a test, I switched out of playing anything like myself and played my character as the kind of naive kid that I actually was as a high school freshman. When it turned out I was in something like the real world, I was pleased, and impressed, and very grateful that I never encountered any real-life version of Damien at that point in my life.

Mild spoiler for another game (Mass Effect 2):
It reminds me of how Bioware handled the Jack character in ME2. Where I also much appreciated that they don't let you "save" her.

When a gift from a friend entitled "Magical Dairy" popped up on steam, I was cringing my teeth from the download. I had mentioned an appriciation for stories that can make one think in a short amount of time and hardly expected much from this psuedo Harry Potter slash cutsie anime-styled game. I expected I would be using the grandparent rule soon- "Thank you for the meal. Yes, it was good. Yes, I would love seconds." Politeness to the ruin of my stomach. Then along strolled Damian, prince of feigned politeness.

Oh how little I knew about the grandparent rule's significance in this game. If I didn't know better, I would like to guess that Magical Dairy actually set me up to feel that way before the game even started so that I might promptly shove my foot in my mouth. Hardly do I find stories that realistically display the goings on of a relationship doomed from the start, with a cup of naive freshman and deviant manipulator so plainly mixed into the reciepe.

The good part about this story is that it keeps every point clear and simple. Younger audiances can enjoy it as it was designed, older audiances may recieve an unexpected slap to the face on how plainly a story of misguided love could be told. Who knows- maybe middle and high school students really do understand these things better than we think.

I didn't see it coming at all. I'm still making excuses for him. It was cool how much I felt it.
I was hoping for more time after the relationship ended so I could play as the-girl-that-got-taken-advantage-of dealing with pity from the entire school and trying to start a new relationship with everyone knowing my tarnished history. I always ended up wanting more. Thank you Magical Diary for surprising me in a culturally relevant way.

Hmm. Did you really see the abuse before he dropped the mask? Yes, people were warning you that he was a Bad Person, but he was perfectly polite, had perfectly valid explanations for the accusations levelled at him - and he's a demon (or half-demon - I'm still not sure if that part was a lie), once you discard that as evidence that he's bad in and of itself, it becomes a valid explanation as to why people treat him like they do - he was a very, very good liar, and I, for one, am not that upset with myself for not seeing what he was doing until it was too late. (At which point, I gleefully went down the dark path.)

I have to be honest and say i did not see it coming. I was basing his character on my own assumptions, like; "My character is invincible, he can't hurt her" Or "They wouldn't just make the cliché evil demon, he's most likely misunderstood, and I'm the only one who can save him".
But as it turned out... He was actually a demon. He's what every abused woman fear, as he tells you he could (despite the school security) teleport in and kill you at anytime.

In the end you're not with him becuse you truly changed anything about him. You're with him becuse you have no other choice. Atleast not one that ends well.

Don't get me wrong, i adore this game. Damien is one of the main reasons why. Before i played this game i was more likely to say "Thats sad, but why doesn't she just leave him?" When i heard about abusive relationships, since it seemed to me like it was a choice a woman in that situation would be able to make. But it's really not. Damien tries to guilt you, threaten you and blackmail you into loving him. I agreed to go back into a realtionship like that, since i thought; "THIS time he truly means it". But it would never actually be. Damien aren't going to suck your soul this time around, but being with him will eventually drain it from you. It will drain the will to change and the will to fight him. And that is a situation some women are actually in!

I'm just impressed the game was able to hide it behind my own expectations! They used my knowledge of demons in litterature, to trick me into a terrible relationship. And that is incredible writing!

(Sorry i removed the spoiler tag!) Yes very much like that! I never actually realised how bad games are in terms of "OH GOSH! You just said something that made that person change their whole life... On the spot!
Not even fictional people should be able to do that. It's just really hard to do, as it takes time to change something that basically made up someones whole life.

Not everyone is bound to have the same experience as me or opinions. But it makes me kinda dissapointed when Let's Player's and people on forums describes how much they love Damien. Their virtual boyfriend.

I beat the game twice in a row. I will say that I was nice/friends with Damien until he snapped at me. So in my second play through I totally refused his hand at initiation. He shows his true colours extremely quickly when you do this. I would rather go solo the whole game than romance him- but that's me. ^_^

That said... I must go romance Professor Snap-Er Grabby....

Damien's a freak.
Niel the illegal immigrant 2013년 2월 15일 오후 11시 09분
Also he was all "I knew you didn't love me baww" and I was all "I'm a toaster" and then he sapped my HP and I wondered why I didn't conflagrate him in the empyrean genesis of creation's fire. That being my spec. That would have been tons of fun.

I kinda wanted to romance professor super-MILF.

Disappointment in that department.

I have a deep-seated hatred for Damien after that experience. This was my first play-through, so I consider it my "real" game, and this is what I get...

I said yes on principle of giving him a chance and the basic human need to belong and trust. No, I didn't think I could "change" him, I just didn't think he would do something like that.
I'm a dude, and when I see Damien I see some creep who breaks girls' hearts and then makes it harder for the rest of us to connect with them. what a sociopath!
No way am I giving away my soul!
So while we are here, what are the other endings for Damien?
suksas 2013년 2월 17일 오후 10시 36분
I just like the rest had actually did the same thing. But he really has good story line. All your friends for the most part eather don't know anything beyond him being a demon or refuse to share valuable info. Damien used it like a pro. I've seen some things that clearly didn't add up in the stories of other characters about him, and I really did thought it was exagerated. Never seen plot twist coming, but atleast as friendly as my character was there were some limitations to how far she can go,even for friends. But that freaking charming ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ stole some of my hard earned health D:<

Afterwards I really wanted him to show up again, so my gal could shred him to pieces with magic. It might have led to expulsion, but it would have felt good.

Did enjoy the entire storyline with him though, just...wanted some payback.

That's the beauty of it. The way they play with our own expectations.
"Oh, this is a mary sue school of magic. The demon is totally a misunderstood guy, who only needs someone with a kind heart to make him happy. Also he's hot Ti-hi"

But nope. He's actually, you know, a Demon! It's awesome how the developers anticipated our expectations of this game and used it against us.
