Can someone please tell me what is up with this incredibly stupid issue?

What is the problem with doing this?

It's not a "stupid issue", it's completely intentional. Brushes can't be concave, Hammer just isn't letting you create an invalid brush.

I don't exactly think I'd call that concave. Something really, really stupid must be going on behind the scenes if it considers anything to be concave rather than just the shape it is, regardless.

It doesn't matter what you'd call it, it is concave. Hammer even appears to have helpfully drawn which part is the problem. I have no idea what you're even trying to do or why you can't just make the wall the normal way, but there's definitely no bug here.

I don't want to see the glass through itself, I thought I might not be able to if it was one piece. Regardless, I could make the same shape another way, it would just be significantly more tedious when this way should work perfectly fine.

You already have the shape built correctly below, you just need to resize it. And even if you didn't, it takes literally 20 seconds to build it from scratch. Your way took 2 minutes to produce an invalid brush. You won't see the glass through itself as long as you texture it correctly.

And no, this way should not work fine. Not being able to use convex hulls is one of the basic restrictions of brush geometry and the bizarre shape you've created would be considered a topology crime in mesh-based modelling as well (convex n-gons). It's the easiest thing in the world to fix, too - just split it up with the clipping tool.
