Do not use simple HTTP connection on the internet if you can avoid it.
I consider visiting a HTTP website even more dangerous than using it with this game because on websites you could potentially enter your username, password, etc. and on HTTP these are sent without encryption. In this game you don't enter any of your credentials. Only the game and the server itself are sending tickets, tokens, WBuserId, user stats, user inventory information, etc.
If you are not comfortable with these information being visible on the web, then DO NOT use this method. Sadly I don't have an alternative for you then.
As I mentioned the connection works the same way as any connection to a website through a web browser. Based on this you can visit the address in question in Firefox (I don't know how other browsers handle this), this address: https://ozzypc-wbid.live.ws.fireteam.net/
You should get a warning from Firefox. (In the game this was the point where we got the ERROR 3 as we all know it well)
This Firefox warning in itself shows us the server is still up and running because if it wasn't then Firefox would simply show a "Server Not Found" message.
Now if you click on the "Advanced" button you can see the error code and even check the server certificate. If you view the certificate you can see at the Validity section this: "Not After: Wed, 19 Jul 2017 16:35:26 GMT". This is the exact time when the server was no longer accessible by the game.
However we can also check ourselves in Firefox if the http version is available or not. If you did you can see it works and gives you a "Permission Denied" page. (Probably because the server is set up to only communicate with the game properly.)
It works because HTTP doesn't require certificates but on the other hand this protocol does not encrypt the data traffic at all.
This means the server was never shut down, only the server certificate expired.
You basically share an OTP session token which at worst can be voided and therefore terminate your session with the online service and the second thing you share is you unique SteamID which is public anyways
It already is playable as I have tested it yesterday with some friends
Only thing I need is people to fill my lobby for those freaking full lobby achievements
As I said earlier the only thing that is shared is something that at worst terminates your current session if abused.
EDIT:
You are not sharing any sensitive data at all.
Initially when I was just testing I had a problem of Arkham Credits not saving after the match ended. This seems to be okay now that I played with multiple people.
The only big problem I see now is in the lobby system. Right now the host cannot continue the game in the same lobby, because the game hangs for everyone else on the loading screen if they continue. The host has to exit the lobby and someone else has to invite them back. This changes the host every time and it is a little bit uncomfortable to go through all this after every match but that's what we got.
If you thought I meant there are problems with the server connection, I can assure you there is nothing wrong with the connection itself.
