This game.... is good?
I see a game based on the TV series, instead of the books and think "HAHAH oh geez this has to be a horrible cash in". And then I see some good reviews, and very little bad.

For someone like me who has read all the books (and prefers them), may I get a short review or recommendation from you?

Also, why have I never heard of it? I discovered it on a list on SteamDB.

I haven't had much time to play yet but the game is not really based on the TV show as it was being made before the show even aired. What they did was make the game look like the TV show as you can tell by the look of some of the characters that are based on the likeness of some of the actors. There is also some music from the show but that's pretty much it.

I haven't read all the books (yet) but you may be interested in knowing that R. R. Martin has approved of the story of the game (he did have some creative input mostly to make sure everything respected the canon).

The game has had some mediocre reviews. Like I said I haven't played much but I don't find the game ugly and from what I've seen so far it doesn't seem like the gameplay is worse than say Kotor or DAO. I bought it for the story so I wasn't really bothered by the technical aspects.

Anyway, I thought I'd point these few things out. My first impression is mostly positive but then again I really like the setting.

I also read all the books and the game is a great companion to the story. More details on lesser houses and and overall great story. The gameplay is nothing fantastic but i enjoyed it.

I read the books and I really liked this game. The story is great, but some people find the gameplay boring and realization cheap. Clearly, their budget was not enough for such a license.

The game doesn't make you play events from the books, but tells the story of 2 exclusive characters instead. It has some cool twists and a great (yet bitter) ending.

If you like well-written and dark stories, go on : it's made for you.

This game is awesome. Just passed it with my girlfriend. It's almost like watching a show. A bit remind me of Telltale games.
Gameplay's kind like Dragon Age Origins.
Epic story, great charismatic characters. We're had a lot of impressions playing this game.

The cash in would be the RTS game, this one turned out pretty good, if you are playing for the story.

Game's good.
Why so?

It has a pretty nice scenario with various endings. The ending you get is based on some crucial choices throughout the game (mostly late game part). Plot's (basicaly) about Targaryen loyalists, that were not pointed in the books or series.

It has great music, that somewhat resembles the series one. Sometimes it feels even more immersing.

Gameplay is sometimes challenging and controls can be frustrating at first, but it's k, you'll get used to it right away.

Graphics are fair but a ittle outdated.

Finally got around to playing the game a little more and the graphics are certainly not impressive but not terrible either (some animations could be better but then again the same could be said about Skyrim).

The combat has been criticized a lot but it's actually good provided you enjoy combat in games like KotoR or DAO. In this game I feel combat is a bit more static because it seems much more difficult to kite. I think it's a good thing but it probably makes the first encounters a bit more challenging (in a rock and paper kind of way because you don't have unlocked enough tactical options when you've just reached level 2).

Two hours in the game is a bit linear but that's ok since it's supposed to be the prologue/tutorial. Hopefully things will open up a bit.

The second playable character is a nice addition and in a way his introduction mimicks the narrative that keeps shifting between different characters with every chapter in the books.
