Fullscreen is not fullscreen

I’ve set the game to fullscreen on the resolution of my screen, but the game only takes about half of the screen in the center, the rest being big black borders around it.

How do I make the game take the whole screen without being stuck on a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ 1280x resolution?

In the "recommended" setting it should be Fullscreen, but yes, unfortunately in 1280p, we made the game 15 years ago and that was a good resolution then, but obviously not as much now :(
