Running Ys Origin on Windows 8.1?

I recently got a new computer with Windows 8, and I can't get Ys Origin to work. Whenever I try to play, I get a black screen for a few seconds before I'm sent back to my Steam library.

I've tried to change the compability mode for both the game and Steam to Windows 7, but it still won't start. I even disabled movie playback, as it seems to have worked for others, but without any result.

How am I supposed to get this game (and other games which I have yet to install) to work on Windows 8?

Late but I'm running the game fine on Windows 8.1 with no issues so perhaps it's a driver issue on your part?

it might be a problem with codecs so install somethig like cccp or w/e you feel like using
just a guess

Without your specs. it is hard to tell, as I play it on Win8.1 without a problem with a wired Xbox 360 controller. More than likely my guess would be your graphics device and/or drivers.

I got it to work by disabling the BGM. Since I'd rather play it with sound I'm still gonna try looking for a better solution. Since you thought there might be something wrong with my graphics device, this PC has a Intel i5-3230M processor and a GeForce 710M graphics card.

I'd say make sure your GeForce drivers are up to date, when I upgraded to Win 8.1 it did not upgrade my graphics drivers and all my games were unplayable until I updated my driver.
