You can dodge the pickup attack, but I usually let him do that since I never had problems with the rocks, and it feels like he'll keep trying to grab you multiple times before you get another opportunity to attack him.
Stick to one side. There are 6 rocks, and the intro animation fully charges your gauge for minimium 5 taps. Shield through all that are necessary on your side, and if by sheer chance the sixth one is there too, just use your double jump to get to the other side and clear it.
The main pain with this fight is Gildias spends the last part playing keep away. Remember you don't actually have to trip him. You can hit his face directly, either with your sword (be ready to shield a bite) or shoot fireballs immediately as you land before he can take off again.

Don't forget Chester.
After the Lance move is the only time Chester is completely vulnerable (for a very narrow window). That said, Chester can technically be damaged at any time (most likely result = Swiss Cheese Adol).
TIME ATTACK CONDITIONS (In case you missed something)
Adol Level = 42
Battle Saber (Max Level)
Battle Armor (Max Level)
Battle Shield (Max Level)
Fire Magic (Three Rubies)
Wind Magic (Two Emeralds)
Earth Magic (Two Topaz)
Good I hope your Dreams are tormenting you, You Jerk! all the hell you put me through...
1) You have a spammable guard this time.
2) Always attack from behind or he throws some kind of vacuum falcon in your face.
3) Don't walk into the pink force field. Like 90% of the problems people have with this fight is getting impatient and throwing themselves into that thing.
4) Your sword is just long enough to hit him through the force field without touching it yourself, and hitting him through it seems to drop it instantly. If you know your swing range (and you REALLY should after the flying mollusks in Illburns), you can tap him out of the shield and attack immediately, which earns you a couple more hits before his defenses go up. Doing this reliably cuts the fight quite a bit.
After that it's basically just an endurance match.
My condolences. I did the same thing against Gyalva (the tile filpping bastard) on Inferno after like an hour and a half of getting hosed by the RNG.
