I have had so many damn crashes it's ridiculous, I just bought this game and I can barely get to the next save point before it decides to crash, I've got an i7 3770k with a msi gtx770 on an asrock board, this is some bs.

Same problem here, two months since I contacted with Tech support, still trying to find out what the hell happens with the game.

I bought this game a long time ago, and initially played through the first 3 or so missions. After taking about a week's break from the game, it started crashing at the first load screen before the main menu. I've been trying for months to get it working again and no fix I could find online helped at all whatsoever. None of the updates fixed my issue, either. I was fiddling with it today and it still wasn't working, but after one small, simple change it is now working again. All I did was put steam in offline mode. I'm not sure why that made it work again, but i'm not complaining.

So no fixes yet?

I seemed to be having a lot of issues with .net framework 4, and I uninstalled everything from nvidia, and .net framework, reinstalled .net framework and nvidia drivers and it's launching, don't know what to say but at least it's working.

Put steam into Offline mode - then launch.

Putting Steam into Offline mode worked for me. I have two computers. One at my appartment and one at my parents house. I installed Dishonored fresh on the latter and got nothing but CTD problems after Steam telling me they had a problem syncing my game. Then I tried putting Steam into offline mode and it works though I can't continue playing where I left off. Seems like Steam and dishonored have issues that Steam should fix soon!

Is there anyway I can get my save games files back so that I can play offline? I would rather not have to start again from stratch - Event Viewer on my machine is blaming MSVCR90.dll - it's part of the microsoft distributible and you can't delete it or reinstall another copy.

I had the same issue, and found this to be a depressing, but working solution for me. Only try this after you've tried everything else:
-Delete all in game data from normal story, Daud and/or Brigmore witches story data you have.

Dishonored's game progress is saved in the cloud, if local and cloud data conflict, it makes grounds for the entire game to be unable to load. It is a pain to have to start over, that I understand, trust me. But it works, here's how to do it(even though the game crashes)

Step1: Start steam in offline mode
Step2: Launch Dishonored
Step3:Delete all ingame data from the normal campaign to All DLC progress, exit the game and restart steam in online mode(I disabled cloud storage to evade future trouble).
Step4:Launch Dishonored- your welcome(I hope).
